Big towers really needed??

All i can say is your system is really nice..large and set up for HT and i'm 100% sure it kicks ****.
As far as a 2 channel set up for strait music...it's pretty much 100% wrong. Maybe why you think you need subs for 2 channel music. SDA's work best maybe 1 foot off the back wall..thats about it.
Your speakers are so far off that..there is little or no chance your going to get any good bass out of them. Your set up is great..and it works for you..but i can understand why you say you need subs for 2 channel... -

And I thought I had heard everything...simply clueless. I take it you didn't read my previous post on how subs benefit a two channel music system.
Just out of curiousity where did you come with the notion that I don't get good bass from my speakers? The icing on the cake is that my system for music is 100% wrong...priceless!!!"2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -
No sorry..that was an off the top comment about the set up. For a strait 2 channel set up...that would NOT be the way most would have a rig set up,or at least how i would set it up....so that is my fault i should not have said that.
Again your rig and set up is massive, looks kick ****, and i'm sure works 100% for anything you want to put on it.
In my case for just a 2 channel music system..is just not needed, and dose not need a sub, for the music i'm playing on it. SDA 1C's are NOT tower speakers...with the right amp and equipment..there is just no need for a sub, at all. That was my only point....sorry if i went off, too much. -

Not a problem, but what did you take away from the information as far as how a sub compliments the main speakers. Whether or not one chooses to add a sub is certainly their choice but you should try to gather as much information on a subject before making a decision. Your speakers are fine without a sub as you mention but still would benefit from one...as would pretty much all speakers would once you understand the physics & science behind the principal. It's no different from the way we discuss how cables, amps etc...effect one's system. But in the end it's entirely up to the end user. Personally I find it a huge benefit even though performance wise my speakers don't need any help in the bass department. It is a very complex topic that is well worth doing some research on. Knowledge is power."2 Channel & 11.2 HT "Two Channel:Magnepan LRSSchiit Audio Freya S - SS preConsonance Ref 50 - Tube preParasound HALO A21+ 2 channel ampBluesound NODE 2i streameriFi NEO iDSD DAC Oppo BDP-93KEF KC62 sub Home Theater:Full blown 11.2 set up. -
This is my opinion and experience only. But I have never heard a pair of speakers that would not benefit from a quality sub. Now I have not listened to $10k+ speakers before either. But still.....--Gary--

I wonder why very few quality pre-amps provide support for subs? They primarily seem to be supported in the AVR world. Of course, that feature was added when people were using those little speakers that have zero bass for HT.Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

I'm pretty sure the dedicated subwoofer out was added to support the discrete lfe channel from dvd's.Oh, Listen here mister. We got no way of understandin' this world. But we got as much sense of this bird flyin in the sky. Now there is a lot that bird don't know, but it don't change the fact that the world is happening to him all the same. The way I have my set run is out of my Yamaha 665 into the tuner section of my Onkyo P-301.This allows me to get i-net radio,
my dock/i-pod and and fm into my 2-channel system.W/ that said my xo settings are 80hz and when I do use it this way I turn the audio off of the Yamaha so no sub during 2-chl listening.Regular t.v. and all other avr functions I do use the sub and for Klipsch H/D #500 smalls they sound great also.Room size is a good 18x15...Blue Fox is right about most pres not having sub out
