I bought a used pair of Polk S4 yesterday and didn't notice until I got them home that they sound like they have blown woofers (thew woofers rattle at bass frequencies). Seller said he'd refund my money if I wanted him to but I was wondering if I could ust install a pair of new woofers to fix these. The cabs are in quite good shape and the highs sound nicer to me than the Dayton B652s I was using. I plan to power these with an Onkyo TX 910. This is in my bedroom system.

Dayton has 6.5" woofers for $10 reach that are supposed to be a good speakers. TIA for your advice.

You can't just slap any driver into a speaker, you have to know the perimeters. You can try CALLING Polk to see if they have any replacement drivers. Other than that, return them.

    Hi -

I took them back to seller today and he gave me a pair of Mitsubishi MS10's to try out, that I don't think I'm too impressed with. They're big and I prefer a smaller speaker like the S4 with nice sounding highs and tight bass.

Anyway, he says he has some Sony 6.5's that he's going to see if they will fit. If they won't, he says he's going to possibly get something from Crutchfield, but I'm going to suggest he call Polk too. I was impressed with the S4s even though they were blown.

Again, you can't just slap in any driver.
