Point to point crossovers?

Anyone see any reason one couldn't use a piece of delrin to build a point to point crossover?

I don't see where delrin has any conductivity that might harm the process..

I plan to drill holes in the delrin to feed the leads into and do my point to point on the bottom side as well as having holes to zip tie the capacitors, and inductors down to the delrin..

It's an insulator not a conductor so u r good.

I've done a point to point crossover on MDF and it worked great.

As long as it doesn't conduct, you'll be fine. It's an engineered plastic, so be careful with the soldering iron. You can also go "old school", and use 1/8", 3/16", or 1/4" Masonite

I would be concerned about it melting...

    May I suggest epoxy glass?

I have used this for that purpose before with great results.

I have used it on my binding post cups with good results so I figured I was good but with what I have planed I thought I would ask just in case someone saw some concern.

I'm not worried about melting, that I can control, and it's not like your there very long with the iron.

My plan is to use 1/2" and machine a pocket on the bottom side where I will do my point to point. That way I can mount it flush to the cabinet or cap the bottom with another piece of delrin. Leaving the work looking clean on top..

    1/2"? Sweet!

As soon as I regain connection with my laptop I am sending the dimensions of the shelf I had in mind...

I would check out the SDA SRS 2 modification I did Larry, that is similar to what you are planning... Just not a 1/2" thick... That's going to be cool!

Sounds cool. Question for you though.....why delrin, if you don't mind me asking?

Delrin is the brand name for an acetal resin engineering plastic invented and sold by DuPont. Often marketed and used as a metal substitute, Delrin is a lightweight, low-friction, and wear-resistant plastic capable of operating in temperatures in excess of 90 degrees celsius (approx 200 degrees Fahrenheit). - WIKI

    It is also insanely pricey.

Ah, gotcha. If I'm not mistaken, that's the material used in Joe's "THE" record clamp you and I use.

Point-2-point crossovers that I did for my brothers 2.3tls. 3/16ths smoked lexan, DH labs Silver Sonic wire, everything pt 2 pt and soldered, no connectors anywhere but the binding posts. I could not believe a speaker this size could disappear! I'm doing mine next when I finish working on others gear!!!

This is real similar to the SDA SRS 2 crossover I did - real nice Dracoskeeper!

Thanks, I follow all of your builds. I'll do a detailed write up when I do mine, I'm doing all of the inductors also but the configuration should be similar. I'm a huge proponent of pt 2 pt crossovers/wiring and eliminating all unnecessary connectors. I can't see the point in using high end speaker cable feeding a speaker then going thru nickel plated brass connectors (37 by my count in the 2.3tl's) and mid grade in-cabinet wiring.
