how many amps are you going to have, or if you think theres even a slight chance of upgrade, how many amps do you think youll have?
    what JBL speakers?
JBL has really cheap speakers(price) for beginners, i like em, but their higher end stuff isnt nothing to write home about

for the burtus i would use a minimum of 4awg for the power and ground....it also depends on the length

imo...i would just use a run of 1/0 back to the trunk...that'll more than likely support anything you do on the future

like the others said, 4ga will run that amp fine, but if you want any headroom for future upgrades you'll want to run 2ga or 1/0 ga to a distro block and then take it to a short 4ga run to the amp and then ground

I'd take the polks hands down. and here's the reasons...

Both polks have a higher sensitivity rating (they'll play louder for the power) and a larger frequency range (JBL 5x7's play a little lower but it's unnecissary) than their JBL counterparts.

the JBL's look to have a paper cone, either way it doesn't look like it's one of the better cone materials whereas the polymer/mica composite cone from the polks is a good material for speaker cones. much better than treated paper imo, which is what it looks like JBL is using, and since they don't state anywhere that i could find that it's a higher grade material i'm going to assume that i'm right.

Tweeter: personally i greatly prefer the acoustic detail provided by a silk dome tweeter to any other style of tweeter i'v ever heard. others may disagree with me on this but it's the style that's most pleasing to my ears.

I don't trust the JBL's because of the lack of info they provide, no detail on VC's, tensel, spider etc. not even on their website or in the manual for the speaker. also very little detail on the x-over.

If it were my money i wouldn't hesitate to get the DB's over the JBL's.

Couple of thoughts, keep in mind, I have less experience then most of the guys here though....

Alarms: Crutchfield sells the CrimeGuard brand, which is an excellent alarm with a life time warranty. I have an Excalibur Gold which is made by the same company. Not sure if anybody out your way sells or installs CrimeGuard but check it out. Also have had very good experience with Clifford alarms, very high quality. Tweeter sells and installs Clifford.

Speakers: Be sure you listen to speakers before you buy them. I was all set to buy the polk db 690's then changed my mind when I heard them and went with the EX369's. The db's have a very hollow sound to me, not very brilliant, at least the 690 3ways did, didn't hear the 5x7's. Several people have told me that they perfer the EXIII series speakers to the db's, and the EXIII's can be found for pretty good prices since they are being discontinued. I was able to hear the EXIII's and thought they were awesome, very full rich sound, but not harsh.

And that's my two cents.......whatever you do make sure you listen to speakers before you buy them.

sorry guys, i havent been on in awhile, so i havent looked at the tips on the alarm and stuff. thanks for the alarm tip site cody :-p, i think ill go by those tips. and on the speakers.. i went out and got myself a nice little christmas present :) i got me an amp just to use for now.. its bazooka.. its pushing my subs pretty good, ill eventually upgrade and get the brutus.. thatll be a month or two. and the polk db speakers sound awesome! i love them. ill get the pioneer head unit soon too... as soon as i decide to get up off my lazy **** and go check out the audio stores and see if one of em is selling that one :-\ if not.. i guess ill get it online. im also gonna go stop by us tech sometime in the next week.. they sell viper alarms there so im gonna check on those, if i find one that i like, ill probably buy it, i dont want to spend 1500 bucks or more and then just get it stolen by a pathetic loser that cant afford to buy his own. :-D

    sounds like a plan
and if you go in the viper place, asking questions about the alarm with confidence like you know what youre talking about(Even if you dont really know what youre talking about...lol)
theyre less likely to try to screw you
remember, sensitivity isnt the greatest thing about an alarm
i mean, if your alarm is half way decent, and someone tries to smash the glass on your window, its going to go off
the best alarms are the ones that cant get bypassed some how by a thief who knows his ****
