At higher volume levels, both sets of tweeters clip out, is there a page or fact sheet that describes possible reasons and solutions?
Running a crown xls1500 amp "yea I know I'll take grief for this"
Parasound 2100 pre amp. Happens at the 4-5 dial level.
Clean box pro level converter.
CD player.

You're tripping the polyswitches on the crossover board. It could be because they have been tripped to many times and have become hypersenstive or your amp is clipping or both.

That amp is like designed for like a PA systems? I am not knocking your amp (although it is kinda inexpensive) I am just saying that maybe the poly switch is just doing it's job and (the amp) it does not like the load these high end speakers impose.

Thanks. I'll pass that on to the guy looking into the reason why they clip. Just gathering info from others that might have had the same problem and hopefully hearing what causes/solutions people have figured out. THANKS again!

Polk no longer gives out poly switches...

I would get rid of the polys by using a jumper or a .5 resistor. But first you need to get a better amp or your asking for trouble..

On a plus side you will be floored on how moch better they sound without those old poly switches in them..

What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

If the converter works ok then you won't pay too much american dollars when you convert your funds to yen when you buy the tea.

I thought yen was the Japanese currency? How did they get drug into this??

They also clipped with a parasound 2250 amp also at the same volume level. I do appreciate the information on possible causes and how it can be fixed. Funny thing is they still sound very good in their current condition. THANKS ALL!!

The polyswitch trips as in it is a resettable fuse. Clipping is something else entirely.

You need to either replace yours or remove them.

F1 is right and I also know way to well. On my SDA's the poly switch would trip at a very low level like 20-30 wpc drove me nuts. I guess the owner before me drove them with a very cheap reciever and they must of tripped a LOT them babies were wore out. I would get more polyswitches onless you get a better amp.

Gotta stay with the parasound 2250 for now. These speakers truly are amazing even in their condition of how good they sound. I can't say thanks enough for the advise "which I'm passing" on to my repair guy. Hopefully he'll get time soon to address the info.
I wish I could just drop them off at Polk, leave a check and say fix em!!

But that would remove the eureka experience that you are going to get.
I will say this I had a problem child 100 wpc Carver amp that used to make mine (polys) trip real easy changing the amp got rid of the problem.
