I love the craft brew explosion. Even in central Iowa, I have 9 breweries within 5 miles of my house and probably 20 within 50 miles.
agreed! we even had one more open up in Cedar Falls called SingleSpeed, and they are doing some amazing things. if you have a need to be up this way, don't miss it, and take a growler with you.

I do love the fancy craft beers and imports...BUT I do like a cold Budweiser. It has that distinct beachwood aged taste (whatever that means)

I have friends who only drink budweiser. Back in the 70's, 80's Budweiser was king. I worked at a liquor store in early 80's, Budweiser out sold all other beers by quite a margin.
    Luckily times have changed.
    I dont drink Budweiser.

I drink New Glarus Brewery beers pretty much exclusively. Regular bud isn't too bad for a mass produced beer.

If we're talking about Bud, it most certainly did not come from Germany. The name Budweiser has been used by three different breweries in history--2 Czech and 1 American--but the Budweiser that is the number 1 brew in America today has always been American.

It is also a rice lager. Many people cannot distinguish Budweiser from Tsingtao (Chinese rice lager) or Sapporo (Japanese rice lager). So if you like rice lagers, may as well drink Bud, since it's cheaper than the imports.

And if you like Bud, guess what, you like rice lager. 共産党員!

well light beer in my book does not even count as beer, lol but yeah its pretty disgusting.

    For the win.

No one else has even mentioned a light beer as their choice over Bud Light. As light beers go, Bud isn't too bad...especially a cold draft on a hot Texas night at Rangers Ballpark. Only $7 too:eek::cry:

You might be wrong on that one, PSOVLSK. Not sure if my normal beer of choice, Michelob Ultra, is a light beer but I'm pretty sure it is and I do not prefer nor do I drink Bud Light. It states on the label that it has 2.6 grams of carbs and only has 95 calories. Pretty sure that makes it a light beer but I will reserve the right to be incorrect with this assumption.

    Bud is a perfect beer.

For your three year old's first brew.

For me. I'll stick to Stone Brewing's products.

I love everything I have tried there.

NPR just had a private company test the alcohol content of the allegedly affected beers. All the test show that the alcohol content were spot on within a few hundredths of a per cent... When they contacted the law firm involved, the lawyers said their own tests will prove otherwise (huh?)...

As much as I don't like Bubwiser, I would be surprised if what's in the can is not what's advertised. They being a huge company should be very sensitive to potential lawsuits or FDA issues, and percent alcohol would be a major issue.

I don't know if Ultra is officially a light beer either, but it's definitely similar and I missed that you said it was your favorite. So as an addendum to my previous statement, MOST people haven't mentioned a light beer as their favorite over Bud Light:biggrin:

Off the top of my head, Michelob Light and Amstel Light are my favorite light beers...but I haven't had either of them in over a year. I usually have a variety in the house, but some form of Blue Moon is usually present. It's my wife's favorite and I like it too.

As for Budweiser, I just finished a six pack of the new Black Crown. Not bad. I'll buy it again.

You could always toss back a few Hemp n Ales Gold or Green, brewed with the finest hemp seeds. You gotta open them with the fishhead bottle opener, and be listening to the Grateful Dead with strobe and black light for the full effect. Or perhaps a Mississippi Mud or a Millstream.

I like craft beers too, but it's very hit or miss. One taste like heaven and another like dog piss. Dig the mexican beers and agree Corona taste different in mexico for some reason. Medelo has been pretty consistant. Don't care for the heavy beers, malts, some Ales, hate being weighted down after one or 2 beers.

Understood but that is what beer tastings are for. At my local craft beer store they have a tasting once a week and for 5 bucks you get to try 5 different craft beers. Some guys bring in their own home brews for people to sample, and along with some good conversation and a little music playing in the background... it's a great time for only 5 dollars.

Had a Schlafly Oak Aged Barleywine with dinner last night. The pub that served it to me (NABC) used to charge $16 for a Budweiser, with the reasoning that if you were going to walk into a pub with all that good beer on tap and order piss, you were going to pay for it.

They have since stopped carrying Budweiser altogether. The closest thing to watered-down swill you can get there now is Spaten Lager.

i have really enjoyed Schlafly's offerings, and their Pale Ale has largely taken over the place of lesser-quality beer stocks in my home fridge. That and Spotted Cow....

Sounds like fun, and a good idea to boot. I used to do the rounds in wine tastings. Those were usually higher end wines with pairings of food at Places like the Pump room in Chicago, Shaws, etc. That got expensive at 100-150 a pop.....and you could never walk straight after. Stopped doing those after one time I left the pump room and couldn't find my car, thought it got towed. Spend until 3 am searching towing yards all over the city for my car only to realize it was exactly where I parked it.

Now, tastings are limited to Binny's and usually free. Not too many do beer tastings around me. Wine has taken over as it's more pleasing to the female crowd too. Wine is kinda like beer in the sense that once you taste the good stuff, there is no going back to Budweiser or Gallo wine.
