Ah, the good ol' Anthem1 amp with the new Psvanes. That's one combo I'd like to get my ears on...
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
oooh, that Hafler hybrid is neat; no need to make apologies :-) I assume (??) that the driver stage was converted to 'the vacuum state'?
How does it sound?
... and you're in NH, eh? :-) Cool.
back to the matter at hand - not too many pretty tubers here, either... but no dearth of photos (so far) to share. I am trying to find interesting ones (i.e., that I haven't posted here before).
How about this guy? Sitting in the queue to be restored, or awaiting the Receiver Rapture (whichever comes first):
(this little hk has, in the intervening years since these photos were taken, been reunited with its missing knob, I am pleased to report) -
Not sure if you can tell from the photos, but this is a Peavey 50/50 push-pull parallel EL84 stereo vacuum tube PA/MI amplifier - nominally (yeah, right) 50 wpc. Looks a tad cheezy but it has pretty substantial output iron and actually sounds pretty good as a hifi amplifier.
The eight output tubes are mounted in a horizontal 2 x 4 array in the back of the amp (and are barely visible in their little steel retainers). The phase splitters and voltage amps, if memory serves, are 12AX7s (or maybe 12AU7s... I haven't looked at its guts in a long time). -

Yes the driver stage was converted.
Also the whole unit was rewired with monster wire and they added some capacitance as well.
I heard them when they were done and they sounded fantastic.
I'm going to get them serviced soon and hopefully return them to near new condition.
I'm in the Lakes region area of NH by the way ( think motorcycle week ie; weirs beach)Polk SDA 1.2 TL

we're on the other side of the state (well... we're transitioning to there from MA)... but it's a small state, width-wise :-)
We have good friends in Alton (speaking of the Lakes region) so we're up that way more than occasionally.
Do you know/have you been to SMAC? http://www.stonemountainartscenter.com/ArtsCenter/
Cool amp!
Back on topic - let's see, what's left in the photobucket files...?
OK - howzabout a Dynaco PAS-3 (I think it's a PAS-3) I rehabbed for an AK friend? Not a preamp for the ages, but it does its job and it is certainly easy to work on :-)
Orange Drops are more than good enough for a PAS :-) -

Cool amp!
So you must be west then.
I have a good bud that lives in the Lebanon area.
Look me up on one of your trips out this way.Polk SDA 1.2 TL

This was for many years the basement hifi in "House v. 3.0".

I meant to mention that the Philips AF-877 tt in the photo above is the one I purchased new from Soundscape in Baltimore in 1979 :-)

I have an hk "Tempo" tuner - cosmetically quite similar to the "Rondo"... don't have a photo of it, though.
It's sitting downstairs underneath this very cute little Bell (which needs new P/S filter caps)...

just tubes...? Here're a couple.
Single-plate 2A3 (Ken-Rad) with a nice (albeit mismatched) Raytheon box. Such cool names in the days when radio was magic.

They sound really good even with a very modest turntable and cart. I'm pretty sure the Valvo's are worth more than the pre and turntable combined.SDA SRS 2.3TL's

I rechecked the date code and they're actually from 1957, not 1958. It's amazing that most of the lettering is still intact after all these years (I never touch the lettering when handling them). Pretty neat tubes.SDA SRS 2.3TL's
