Subwoofer Problems

I am on my 4th Polk subwoofer and #4 one just died last night. I started with a DSWPro550wi that did not work out of the box. Returned it for another unit and that one didn't work either. Went through the nice folks at Polk customer service and because of my troubles they upgraded me to a DSWPro660wi at no extra charge. The 660 worked for a little less than a year and they just sent me a replacement for it in January. The replacement died last night and now I am getting to the point where I would like them to credit me the price I paid for the original 550 plus the wireless adapter and just move on to another brand of sub. I really like the wireless setup and the subs work great...when they work. Am I jinxed or something? I live in a low-key gated community so driving the sub hard isn't possible without police intervention. I really don't know where to go from here and could use some direction. Any ideas??

    Thanks for posting on Polk's forum, needless to say I'm sorry you're having so much difficulty getting a subwoofer to work long term. My advice would be to continue working with Polk's CS to solve the problem. Do you have any kind of brown outs or surges in your AC? Notice the house lights flicker? Much electrical storm activity where you live? Are you using any kind of surge protection with your system? Thinking of possible external causes.

    My whole system is protected by a Panamax M5100-PM and the sub power is also surge protected. I'm no electrical engineer but I just don't see it as being an electrical problem. We very, very rarely have noticeable surges or power outages. All my other speakers are Polk and I have never had any issues so that's why I chose the Polk sub. It is very disappointing and, at this point, turning into a major hassle. Thanks for your response...I'll call CS Monday.

    are you over driving it? if you mechanical sound like the woffer bottoming out our or distortion, back down the power and make sure it can ventilate with a few inches at lest from the back of the amp plate. a small amount of distortion can cause failure
