Vinyl will increase for a short more period, but at some point new vinyl users will tire of the hassle and expense of vinyl, and stop buying. Plus they will tell their friends to not bother as it is to much of a hassle for minimal return. When you have an article that says there is a 70% increase, and the total is "389,000 LPs sold", you know there isn't much of a future. On the other hand, high-res digital downloads will continue until it is replaced by on-demand streaming of high-res files.
Hopefully, I'll be around when they all start dumping them for cheap.2 ChannelTurntable - VPI Classic 2/Ortofon 2M BlueAmplification - Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II, Parks Audio Budgie PhonoSpeakers - GoldenEar Triton 17.2 Home TheaterDenon AVR-X3300W; Rotel RMB-1066; Klipsch RP-280F's, Klipsch RP-450C, Polk FXi3's, Polk RC60i; Dual SVS PB 2000's; BenQ HT2050; Elite Screens 120"Man CaveTurntable - Pro-Ject 2.9 Wood/Grado GoldAmplification - Dared SL2000a, McCormack DNA 0.5 DeluxeCD: Cambridge AudioSpeakers - Wharfedale Linton 85th Anniversary; LSiM 703; SDA 2A -

I'm lovin' vinyl and digital. More things to spend money on. LOL!

No doubt, Jesse. I fear for the day when up and comers to this hobby have to research into what a CD or LP was. Much like today's generation hasn't ever seen a rotary phone, betamax, laser discs, PDA's, pagers, typewriters, slide projectors, Polaroid cameras, 8 track tapes and CRT or tube TV's. Like you, I prefer physical media and I think you are right. We should be grateful.
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
I love digital and vinyl also, but there's just something aboyt vinyl that is so seductive. I'm glad we still have physical media also!

You Know!...It's not just the sound of well engineered vinyl, It's beyond that. I enjoy my CDs (easy to use) But as is the warmth of vacuum tube rigs with thier glow, as is the vinyl spinning (In View) with all the mechanics involved before one's stare, as the styles contacts the grove ,Yes! an occasional pop or click, But for some anolog is shear heaven, and as I shared it's not just the sound, It's the entire process and within one's view. But I enjoy my CDs. Depends on the mood I'm in at the time I suppose.Donto's System:

Anyone read the piece in the new Stereophile about the "digital" vinyl?
I try to buy original stuff in great shape and be careful about how remasters are done just for this reason.I agree with the writer that once you remaster to digital it's digital.Putting it on vinyl at that point is like kissing your sister if you want true analog.Main Rig-Realistic AM/FM Record player 8 track boasting 4 WPC

Just goes to show you that cats KNOW analog! You cannot beat a master tape on a TOTL R2R even if you do have a TT that looks like a Monster Roomba and has the "proper amount of suction". After all TAPE was the recording "medium" for all that vinyl!
I remember when we used to ooh and ahhh over RTRs back in that day. We never had that reaction to TTs but envied the Master Tape Machine! Probably still do. But master tapes are pretty rare and very pricey to come by!

Good point chief, having been a R2R baby myself, SQ is off the charts.
I think Vinyl sales are increasing to the higher end crowd, not the average joe. The higher end crowd has deeper pockets, good tables and systems to extract what good vinyl has to offer. Playing a well recorded record on a P.O.S. player in a mediocre system still yields bad sound....in my book anyway. In other words, good vinyl playback costs some coinage which the younger generations are seemingly unwilling to spend.
But when that new Iphone 7 comes out.....look out !!

I dunno....I am in the way below average crowd here. And my 15 year old daughter is wanting a turntable! I was so proud when she asked me for one! But it seems that a lot of her friends are getting into vinyl.
Now I gotta find a somewhat decent table on the cheap soon. Think I got a line on a old Technics though.--Gary--

Good luck with a teen and a turntable, at least you can educate her.
In hindsight we (friends and I as teens) were probably pretty brutal with the TT and vinyl, wrestling around and such while albums playing. Don't rule out a pioneer etc...slap on a decent cart and show her the ropes.

Thanks! She is pretty responsible I think. I set up a little system in her room last year. Mirage M590i's, a small Mirage sub, H&K power amp, Phase Linear pre and a Denon CD player. Does not sound half bad. The Onkyo pre I had in their bit the dust a little while back. She wants an old Pioneer receiver I have to replace the power amp and pre. Says its too much stuff sitting on her shelves! lol
I had a PSW350 sub in there but the damn thing sounds like it has emphysema when music is loud. With all the port huffing and noise it makes. I gotta say, that is a terrible sub! But I got it free so I can not complain too much.--Gary--
