It appears Polk will be announcing a LSi Series subwoofer soon. Can someone at Polk give us some info? Is polk renaming the model PSW808(originally due Summer/Fall 03) or is this an entirely new design?

Hmmm...

It's a new design made to match the current LSi line. I have a feeling it's going to be a kick **** sub after reading the write up in the new issue of the "Speaker Specialist". The LSi can hit really hard and low with those 5.25" woofers, so two 10" woofers made to match the LSi is going to be killer.

ha 2 10 you got to be jokeing. to go low you need displacement. and a 10 in sub dont have that. they should get a high excurson 12/15 and juce it with 300-500 wats.

I wouldn't really mind if they don't go as low as some 12 or 15 inchers. If it has the same quality of dynamics, speed and "punchiness" as the LSi, it's going to be a serious sub for music.

Funny. I've got a 10" sub in my truck with a mere 150 watts that hits 18hz with .6 feet of airspace in the enclosure.

To get a high SPL in a large room you need more power, or more surface space on the driver. It doesn't really have any evvect on the depth. Two 10's can and will do that. Just watch.... ;)

My LSi15s will hit 26hz at -3db, that sub had better go all the day down!

I'd hope that they offer it in a gloss and a non-gloss model. The biggest turn off for me on those LSi's is the shine of them...... I think that it'd be a shame to limit the aesthetic appeal strictly to those that have LSi's, considering that the core of the market for Polk is running RT's, or older.......

Thats a PSW808 by the way. Not the "LsiW" and it is available in other finishes. As it says on the website:
Polk Audio debuted the PSW808 subwoofer ($799). It features a 500W amplifier, two 10" drivers, and is available in either cherry or black finish.
I want to see some specs!

I know some people have said the LSiW and PSW808 are not the same, but they are awfully similar if they're not. The pics from the Polk press release section show the 808 in cherry and lsiw in black. The only differences on the pics that I can see is that the lsiw has a bass boost button on the front between the xover and volume and it has carpet spikes instead of the rubber feet.

Maybe Ken will chime in on this one......

But I could have sworn that the reason the 808 wasn't released was problems in production, thus becoming the LSiW that people had been begging for to accompany the LSi line.......

i just think that you can do much beter than you you get form polk subs for the 800 you can get a svs sub that will beat it hands down. i mean it looks nice and will match the rest of your polks in everything but performance for the money. i just dont know why 80% of most store bought subs dont have bang for your buck and kind of suck unless you spend in the 1k+ range but you dont get the bang for buck.

I have 2 pr of the LSI7 with the PSW450 sub. In need of a upgrade my SVS PB2-ISD is on the truck and a few days away.

LSIW VS. the PB2-ISD ...any thoughts?

I wouldn't count on the LSiW being in competition with the SVS, beings that Polk's reputation in subwoofers is not great to begin with.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

I wonder though why they're car subs are considerably more touted than that of their home systems........or why it is that they seem to put more emphasis on the performance of the car line than the home......

IMO, they simply havn't seen the market, or need to....how many people fall over themselves for a Polk subwoofer? Not many, they just want A subwoofer...nothing special, simple.

I think it is a market that could be addressed, but IMO they never will get into that category. Subwoofers make more money in the Car Audio arena, then they do in HT.

It is not cost effective, and they will probably just drop another average performing subwoofer on the market, time after time.

also car audio is also way marked up compared to ht and als you dont need as much to thump in a car as in a ht.

Looks like she's going to be a grand, unless they are stating the real price rather than the Polk psuedo-MSRP. ($1199 in the article)

Could we throw some 8ohm Momo drivers into a Polk sub box?

I really like the look and match with the rest of LSis! I am not convinced, though, if it can outperform SVS PB2-ISD or even PB1-ISD. I could be wrong..
I am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie.

You know, I've only owned one subwoofer in my entire life but have heard many. In my opinion seems to me two 10 inch subs in the same box would have more SLAM than one 12 or 15 incher. But..., I like tight bass, not the slop stuff. Bass that will hit once and knock you out the window or all the stuff all your walls in one hit.

I'm no expert though, what I don't know is alot. Besides with all the new subs out now maybe the 12's or 15's are tighter.:D

it all depends on the design of the sub. usaly ported subs have more group delay the pr sub then sealed subs. my sub is way beter than my old velo with quality puncheyness and sq and i have 15 in subs. a good test is some metalica and justace for all the dubble bass wow just love that.

Polk LSiW Powered Subwoofer features dual 10" Drivers with high roll surrounds and 2 inch voice coils mounted on opposing 1" thick MDF baffles. The top, bottom, front and back panels of the enclosure are finished in black high gloss laminate and the side panels are finished in Cherry-finish wood veneer.
    Built-in 400-Watt Digital amplifier
Controls include Front Panel Volume & Variable Low Pass Controls, High Pass Filters, unfiltered LFE Input, Phase Switch, Manual or Auto On/Off, Speaker Level Inputs and Line Level Inputs
LSIW is vented via an all-new Application of Polk's Patented Power Port technology that combines a slot-loaded port with a Power Port air diffusion device. The Power Port system allows air exiting the port to slow gradually, thereby reducing air turbulence at the port mouth for superior Bass reproduction with vastly lower noise and Distortion than that of conventional ports
