If you want the social commentary, go with the later stuff. That "Burnt Weeny Sandwich" is the original Mothers from 1969 or so. "Little House I Used to Live In" & "Holiday In Berlin" are personal favorites. They used to play those tunes live. Blow your mind! Tough to believe 6 or 7 ugly guys could do those tunes perfectly, right before your eyes.

I think you need to listen to "Hot Rats" which is also from about 1969 - 1970.

If it's the great guitar work AND some interesting social commentary you're after, try "Overnight Sensation". From 1972 or 1973, this is where he hit his stride with the storytelling.

A really good place to buy Zappa stuff is on ebay. I just bought 13 albums (17 cd's) for $57.00 ( one auction) - The Mothers Fillmore East, Uncle Meat, You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore, We're Only In It For The Money, Freak Out, Chunga's Revenge, Joe's Garage Act's I, II & III, Sheik Yerbouti, Weasels Ripped My Flesh, Burnt Weeny Sandwich, The Lost Episodes.
