Power Cables

I honestly don't know what the mark up is on a $400.00 cable and I don't care. All I know is that it makes the music on my system sound better and that's the bottom line for me.
Yes, please be more clear in the future and I like pecan chocolate chip cookies.
i was talking about Early B.'s post regarding a power cord he personally built with $40 in parts, that could be bought retail for $250. that much of a markup on a product like this is a "rip-off" to me personally, not in the sense that the product doesn't work, but in the sense that the parts could be easily bought and assembled for a much lower price. This is a piece of conductive wire we are talking about here, not rocket science. I never made any broad statements about people who choose to pay retail, just made it clear that in this case, I choose not to do so.
I'm sorry you took offense to that, but I just don't understand why my unwillingness to pay THAT much of a markup on a product to be offensive to you. Maybe it is because you own a business and feel like all consumers should just blindly buy everything in front of them without doing any research. But I don't see you trolling all of the DIY sub threads telling people they should be buying retail subs so I doubt that is the case.
Even if you took offense to my post because you have some sort of emotional connection to your upgraded cables and finding people who "don't believe in them" some how hurts you (which is even more illogical), if you go back and read my posts I HAVE been open to the possibility that upgraded cables make a difference. I've merely been discussing what other people have posted. The ONLY thing I've tried to pry from the pro- side of this debate is for more of a scientific argument than "don't knock until you try it", because personally that would convince me more than anything.
I guess I'll just have to learn to stay out of ANY type of controversial subject on this board because people here are WAY too touchy.
Your cookie is in the mail  -
I was joking about my being offended, hence the winking smilie. There isn't anything, short of insulting my mother, that would really bother me. One has to be thick skinned around here due to the fact that comments, etc. can be easily misconstrued.
Actually, I would be curious to know what you think of the DIY cable after you build it. As for a more scientific argument you could try the white page info at www.mitcables.com. If nothing else it's a good read.
As for controversial subjects, I enjoy taking part in them. It helps us all learn something....at least I hope so.
Only one cookie? Damn I like them by the bag full, but thanks I'll be looking for it.Political Correctness'.........defined

Phantom, here's a review of a relatively cost effective power cord that you might find useful:
http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue6/signalcable.htmI am sorry, I have no opinion on the matter. I am sure you do. So, don't mind me, I just want to talk audio and pie. -

Recently upgraded all of my IEC power cords from Monster 300 to KImber PK10 gold. (wattgate ends). After swapping out the receiver cord I turned on the reciver to fm radio. I was amazed that right off the batt the sound was much cleaner. I put in a cd & listened & gee I did hear a difference. The change was noticible & Im not a person to sit & listen to music for hours but right away I knew it sounded better than before. Its been about 3 weeks since the change & its now starting to loosen up. The music dosnt sound as thight & forcefull anymore. The cable change was a improvment that Im happy with right off the batt & its getting better as the cable breaks in. This wasnt one of those upgrades that I didnt have to try real hard to hear or see a difference, The difference was there right away! I was so pleased I replaced my Mist 55" power cord with the PK10 also. Had to make a connector to connect to the board but that wasnt hard. There was a slight picture improvment with the PK10 but not as much as with my reciver. It wasnt a cheep upgrade but well worth it!

Another believer!
That PK10 has a great rep, I've not heard it myself, so I'm glad you posted your experience.Political Correctness'.........defined

Now this may have already been answered. If so, please forgive me. After looking at that picture, what are you supposed to do with the power cable. Plug your receiver into that cable, and then that cable into the wall? Doesn't that defeat the purpose of having the cable in the first place. Or do you open your receiver and then remove the cable that was built with it?

Quite a bit of equipment these days come with removable power cables. Is that what you're getting at?

bgaskins,
I'll expand on L&C's statement. A lot of gear comes with a IEC socket to which the detachable power cord plugs into. It is possible to install a IEC socket on any piece of gear in place of the fixed power cord. You do not plug the fixed cord into the detachable cord.Political Correctness'.........defined
