Polk Audio SDA 2 in the house!

Finally joined the ranks of SDA owners. I have had several Polks over the years, my favorite being a pair of NM Monitor 10b's I owned for a while. I saw a pair of SDA's sitting in the back of a local thrift last month. I asked the owner about them. He was going to "fix them and put them on ebay for $400". I asked how much as is. Would not sell them to me. I watched them sitting there for over a month. I walked in last Friday afternoon, there they were up front. Turned out to be a pair of SDA II's (SDA IIA's according to Helen at Polk). Marked $149 and with bad speakers written on them. They even had the interconnect cable. So I paid my money, loaded the up and headed home. They are in nice shape with only a few small dings. Got them home and was finally able to look at them proper Sunday night. There are 3 bad 6.5" drivers. I had one DCM 6.5, put it in, like what I here. I'll probably order the replacements today. Any idea what ohm they are suppose to be? I seen both 4 & 8 ohm listed. Anyway, I'll think I am going to love these speakers.

Welcome to CP and congrats on your new speaks. Can't answer your question, but doing a search would probably get the info."Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer

Welcome back to CP! Man...you joined almost 10 years ago?? How cool is that?? The SDA bug got into my blood a while back, actually back in the 80's, but traveling in the music business prevented me from ever owning any stereo gear, so now that I only play a few dozen times a year, I am really enjoying my SDA love affair. You will find a lot of great guys here on the forum and will help in any way they can. Congrats on your score and doing the upgrades will be a fun thing. If you are good at that stuff?? I am not, but there are even members here that will walk you through anything you may want to do! Enjoy!!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

Has it been that long since I had been here, Wow! I trying to decide to buy vintage driver off ebay or go brand new from Polk. The originals are MW-6501. I've seen 6502's right now on ebay. The replacements from Polk are the 6510's, but twice the price. But they would probably last longer. Decisions, decisions.
-
those would be SDA2 no A no B just SDA2 and should of had all MW6501 drivers. MW6501 are plentyful on Ebay if your willing to wait for some to pop up. I do not believe 6510 or 6502 will work right for your speakers. If you mention that your a club polk member you get a discount at 48$ a piece. Just be thankful that they are not 6503 or 6511 those do not pop up very often.

westmassguy wrote: »According to this sticky: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?118471-Current-Production-Drivers-Vintage-Support The 6501s are still available. You said Helen told you they were 2As, they're not, they're 2s. She made a recommendation based on the wrong model SDA. Even if they were 2As, the 6510s are still made as well, so not sure why she would have recommended the 6503s unless they're out of stock

No need to call Helen again unless you are ready to order. Those are SDA 2's and they take the MW6501, period.
They are 4 ohm nominal.Political Correctness'.........defined

Just got off the phone with Polk. The 6501 is no longer available. The 6503 are the recommended replacements.

Playing around with this afternoon, since I can't do much until I get replacement woofs. Found out that there are 3 SL-1000 tweets & 1 SL-2000. Trouble is one 1000 & the 2000 are shot. Currently there are none on ebay, There had been several over the past month, not now.
-
From what I read, you don't have to use the dimensional tweeter.
So you can just get the two stereo tweeters working and unplug the dimensional tweeters.
I'm not sure if they are supposed to have mix/match in the tweeters.
May be you can use the 1000's for stereo in both.
Hopefully, others can chime in.

I have four Polk SL2000 Silver Coil Tweeters sitting in boxes that I have replaced with RDO-194's in my SDA-2B's and Monitor 7C's.

Here's a pair that sold on ebay just like my 1000's.

I too vote that they are SL2000.
You can just use one each on the inside for stereo and forget the dimensional tweeter.

They are SL2000's. This is only my third post and I think the rules require 10 posts to send a private message, right?
-
Hey, works for me, I'll call them 2000's. I,d still want to get the D side working as soon as I get the woofers. Bill would you be interested in parting with your 2000's. I wonder if my pair was made in some kinda transitional period and that is why Helen seemed to think they were IIA's.

Congrats on your sdas. I'm sure you will love them, once you get them up and running. Make sure you power them correctly and they will sing. Here are mine playing a little Billie Holiday, just to give you a taste.

I looked at the manual on hifiengine. It shows tweets like westmassguy's photo. But there are a pair of II's listed on ebay with what look to be the same tweets as mine. I think my head's goin' to explode. LOL
