New Spkr Cables like putting a sheet over my Speakers!

So,I've spent alot of time with my new rig lately, and have all the cables in place! Meaning the lenghts, different IC's,PC's Ect.
Now,I have settled on Analysis Plus Copper Oval Balanced XLR's IC's from my Dac to the pre,and from the pre to my amp.Analysis Plus Black Oval 9 speaker cables,3 Venom PC's,1 for my amp,and 1 for each ML speaker. 2 Pangea AC14se's for my pre,and cd player. Things were VERY good! I was very happy with all my efforts! The ML's were still breaking in with about only 50 hrs on them, and I was already in heaven! ML says noticable improvements in sound come after 100hrs of listening, especially the depth of bass!
Yesterday,I drove to my favorite hifi shop to trade my Analysis Plus Black Oval 9 10ft long cable for a 8ft cable! He had to order this cable,so it was brand new!
Well today I listened to the brand new 8ft Black Oval 9,and the system sounds like it has a cold! The overall weight is thin!!!! Very thin! The music seems 1 dimesional, and I find myself feeling sick! It is very possible the 10ft cables I had were NOT brand new! This place I do business with lets people try different cables before they buy! So they may have had quite a few hrs on them before I got em!
I have ck'd,and reck'd all my connections, and everything is up to snuff! Do these Brand new 8ft cables I just got, need beaking in? And if so,will they improve dramatically?
I dont know what else to think fella's,I'm gonna wait a few weeks, and see if they get better! If not,I'm gonna have to call and get those 10footer's back here! I'm a little bummed right about now!

You are only just at the top of the rabbit hole!

Keep at it and find what works in your system - everything matters.

Give them some time before forming an opinion. One of the drawbacks to having a tuned system with good cables is any change is immediately apparent.

Agree with giving them some burn in but I would call the store and tell them to hold them for you as you may be back for them. The length may be the difference or maybe the manufactor changed ttheir process or material, for the worse.

I would want to know I could get them back, matter of fact I would go get them and a/b after new are burned in.

Give the new one's at least 100hrs before making any rash decisions. Ask the store owners about the other pair...I'll bet they were well over the 100hr mark before you got them. By chance were there any adult beverages under way during the listening session?? Everthing effects our hearing.

I would give them more break-in time as the others have suggested. I own 2 pairs of 8' Oval 9s and they are anything but veiled. They are hands down my favorite speaker cable.

Contact Analysis and ask what they recommend for burn in.

Some manufacturers send directions with their cables.

I have a pair of Theater 2's and they sound great. I really dig them the first time I ran my system with them. Analysis Plus makes excellent speaker cables and I'm not exactly sure why your system sounds as it does.
You could have a defective pair as well. The dielectric may have been over cooked at the factory or something. It doesn't happen hardly ever with top brand cables but something might have happened to your pair.
I'd ask for another pair if they still sound like **** after a week.

Side note , brand new out of the box cables , which I have miles of experience with really never sound bad , they do warm up after time , Audioquest figured this out long ago.

I would normally agree. However,I called my salesmen, and he swears the 10ft cable I had before was brand new, never used. No if's,and's,or but's about it! The 8ft cable I have now,has 30hrs on it,and sounds like ****! Last night I switched the old tubes, thinking I may have had a bad 1,didn't change a thing.

My thoughts exactly Tony. I paid almost 10 large for this setup, and before this cable swap,I was VERY happy! Now,my wife comes and listen's,and she says it sounds like ****,confirming what I thought for the last 3 days. I'm madder than a midget with a yoyo, especially since sound world is 65 miles away! If the cable swap fixes the problem though,I'll be happy.

Hey Bob, I would be willing to send you a set of Audioquest 14/2 flex series cables I whipped up. Not to have or to replace anything but simply to test. If my "cheap" cable sounds better than your new cable, them most definitely a defective set. Rare indeed but not unheard of.
I am down in Des Moines.

Just let me know. Like I said, nothing fancy. Just 10ft lengths of Audioquest Flex series 14/2 with some techflex over it and a couple of bananas at each end. But hopefully it will help you troubleshoot.

Well,Got my old speaker cables today. And my system is back! Unfricken real. Brand new cables I let burn in for about 75 hrs,and they MUST be defective! The new(old)10ft cables sound fantastic, and the new 8ft cables sound horrible. Both are Analysis Plus Black Oval 9. I'm a little pissed that a new set of cables are junk, but a little relieved that this was the problem. Now I can start liustening to the tunes again. Before I got the 10ft cables today,I couldn't even listen to the old cables, they were that bad! I'm a happy camper again!!!!

They might be and they might not, but you'll never know because you didn't burn them in for 200 hours.
