Isnt that the worst when you get a new piece of equipment, look forward to enjoying the new combo only to find it doesnt work as easily as you hope.

I got my Oppo 105 BDP and am/was estatitc when I got it but I cant use it in the way I wanted though it should...

The main players I need to figure out in this setup:

-60 inch Panasonic GT50
-Oppo 105 BDP
-Rotel 1570 pre/pro

Ok so the Rotel only has HDMI v1.3 so is not 3D compatible so I figured the Oppo 105 with Dual HDMI outs would be a good solution to get 3D in my system. Which it is but just cant figure it out.

I have followed the instructions to the word for the Oppo 105 for splitting the signal (pg 55 of manual) .... it is my Rotel that is giving me the problem I believe. But at this point I dont know what to do ... it seems like Club Rotel sub-forum is not in existence on HTGuide.com anymore.

So I set the Oppo setting to dual HDMI --> AV split, sending video via HDMI 1 OUT on the Oppo to the HDMI 2 IN on the Panny GT50. This allows TV sending to display 3D video as the Rotel doesnt allow 3D. This works! I see a 3D picture. WE HAVE PICTURE ... half way there.

Now for the sound .... I hooked up another HDMI cord into HDMI 2 OUT on the Oppo (as recommended in their manual) and connects to my Rotel 1570 Pre/Pro into HDMI 2 IN on the Rotel. All of the settings in the Oppo were set as per recommendations in their manual. So there that is clear and should only be a matter of changing the input settings on the Rotel.

So the frustration begins. I head into the input setup screen on the Rotel for my newly named input 'Oppo BDP' where I go into the Video setup screen there is a "Video input" for Oppo BDP and I select it to OFF, I go down to Audio, hoping to be able to select HDMI 2 for Audio only but there is no such selection.

When the HDMI selected to OFF on the Video it only allows for optical, coax, etc. to be selected in the Audio input select field.

So this is no good because I cant select Audio only HDMI so I go back up to the Video input selection on the Rotel set up screen and select HDMI 2 for video input hoping that it will send the video/audio ... leaving it as HDMI 2 I now go back down to Audio and am able to now select HDMI Audio. But when try to use this set up alnog with the Oppo it does not work.

I assume that the audio should still go through the pre/pro while displaying the directly fed video to the Tv but this does not work.

Anyhow my hope is pretty low for someone to have a similar setup as the Rotel 15 series dont seem all that popular but incase there is someone out there Wow that would be great for some input. I will also send a email to Rotel and see if they respond.

For others who have these new Oppo 103/105 units and need help getting them to work with their AVR etc..., go to AVS blu ray player section, there's an excellent_ thread there that can answer whatever ails ya, and also Oppo provides excellent customer service ,enjoy!

Sorry to say but when one wants 3D , I strongly suggest making the entire chain 3D capable , it's eliminates any confusion and having to run 2 HDMI cables. Not to mention Cable and DSS service offers 3D content , why limit yourself to just a player? Yeah yeah I know but this is the world we now live in , just plan on upgrading all the time.

Agreed with Dan here. How each piece of gear, by different brands, processes a signal may be different. Turn this off, that doesn't work.....turn this on, something else is unavailable. While not always the case, we've seen it enough around here as technology goes forward and legacy gear becomes out of place. Thats the rub however, every few years your upgrading because the technology moves so fast.

For me anyway, it makes no sense to drop 3 g's on a top of the line AVR or HT pre/pro anymore when in a few years they become obsolete. Spend 1g on a receiver and get a better amp or speakers, they never go out of style. Personally I think because of this, physical media's end is on the horizon. Who can replace their movie collection every few years ?

I have my 103 connected to an Onkyo 709 via the HDMI 2 out and the HDMI 1 to the TV. The 709 can do 3D processing. One advantage I did find is that I don't have to turn the entire system on if I only want to watch a movie, lets say late at night and also the HDMI out #1 on the Oppo probably has a better processor than the one on the 709.

    Just my 2cents.

    cheers
