I even still have my copy of - Bop Til You Drop-by Ry Cooder Reportedly, it's the first digitally recorded album of popular music, made back in 1979 !

Was working at Exxon USA downtown Houston maintaining the SL-100 phone switch in 1985. The operators wanted CHristmas music on hold and callers in queue.

Walked down to Radio Shack and bought a CDP and a couple of CHristmas CDs and a impedence matching transformer.

It was years later before I owned a CDP and no idea what my first CDs were.

    LPs, that is another story.

Stayed true to my turntables until 1990 when I broke down and purchased my first CD player. I was living in Germany no longer in the military had a army buddy go on post and buy me a Technics Cd player. I had just seen the Black Crowes a couple of nights before in Ludwigsburg at a place called Das Rock Fabric. I bought The Black Crowes Shake Your Money Maker as my first CD, still own it to this very day.

Dire Straits, Brothers in Arms and a Magnavox cd player in 1985.

Ironically, this is exactely what I did. Brothers in Arms and a Magnavox CD player...in 1985. I bought the CD from the local Hi Fi store in the area at the time, Stansbury Stereo, as they were all giddy to have gotten one of the first all digitally ( DDD ) recorded CD's in stock. So, I said WTF and made the purchase. Grabbed the Magnavox CD player from another retailer at the time, Luskins (you local boys should remember them).
    No excuses!

I do remember, and I still have the long cardboard boxes they came in. Remember those? I think I did pretty well for my first purchase. It was Nirvana - Nevermind, Pearl Jam - Ten, and the Metallica black album. 1991 was a great year for music.
My mom had those long cardboard boxes packed in some storage box and brought over two boxes of stuff that had been in their basement for decades. Opened them up and there they were. This post reminded me about them. Here's a picture of the boxes of some of the first CDs that I bought back in the late 80s. I think the first one I got though was Journey Raised on Radio and REO Speedwagon The Hits.

The Cars-Heartbeat City. I purchased a Kenwood DP1100 and had to go 30 miles to an audio store that just started carrying CD's. The CD section only had about 20 artists.

Like some others, I can't remember the first CD I bought either, but clearly remember the first vinyl album I bought. The Alan Parsons Project - Ammonia Avenue (1984). I suppose my first CD wasn't as important to me as my first album, or I would remember it.

Was 1985 and we just purchased a Sony rack system from the Audio Photo Club on Patch Barracks in Germany. I grabbed the Mr. Mister "Welcome to the Real World" CD which was my first.

Next week we went back and bought Phil Collins Face Value.

Wow, talk about a time warp.
