Music After Shutdown

After reading an old review on the Adcom GFA-555 from Julian Hirsch, he mentioned that the amp will continue to play for 10-15 seconds after the power is shut off. I thought that was weird, so I tried it, and it did!
Do most amps do this? I figure power is stored in the capacitors, but it seems odd that it continues to play so long.

I wouldn't say "most", but some do. Tube amps do. Most SS amps I've used have a relay that cuts the audio path immediately when the amp is switched off.
It's best to turn off components in order from final amp stage to source, and reverse on power-up. During both procedures, it's best to have any gain controls at minimum.2.1: PC>Schiit Gungnir MB>Schiit Freya Noval>NAD C-270>Ascend Acoustics Sierra-1, HSU STF-2 5.1: HDMI Bitstream>Denon AVR-1910>polkaudio RTE55, CS350-LS, RT3, HSU STF-2, Visio M55-F0 -

It made me smile to see this. It seems like such a simple process all wrapped up in one neat little sentence, and yet I'm the only guy in the house that seems to get the order right. Every time I hear a "Pop" and an "Oops!" I wish I hadn't taken out those polyswitches for just a second. :frown: -
mine doesn't continue to play but there is that deflating balloon sound when it's relieving the last juice it has .That noise is again not quite farts but deflating balloons, certainly no music.2chl- Adcom GFA- 555-Onkyo P-3150v pre/amp- JVC-QL-A200 tt- Denon 1940 ci cdp- Adcom GFS-6 -Modded '87 SDA 2Bs - Dynamat Ext.- BH-5- X-Overs VR-3, RDO-194 tweeters, Larry's Rings, Speakon/Neutrik I/C- Cherry stain tops Advent Maestros,Ohm model E

Are you sure? Try playing something for about 5 min and then turn off the amp only. Leave everything else playing. I betcha it will continue to play. -
My GFA-555 does the same thing after powering down. I make sure that the music plays through before I disconnect the input from my PC. Last time I blew something in my Adcom when I touched the input to ground.Do you hear that buzzing noise?

My Musical Fidelity AC3r will continue to play for approximately that long and I have had a handful of amplifiers over the years that have done the same thing.
Tom~ In search of accurate reproduction of music. Real sound is my reference and while perfection may not be attainable? If I chase it, I might just catch excellence. ~ -
My Adcom GFA-6000 and GFA-545II will also do the same, if I allow them to.

It's normal for the 555. No power on relays in the path. The lights in front fade out too.Main Surround -
