Another Showcase question

My wife would never dream of posting on this or any other thread, even though she'll talk to me about what she has seen or read here. So I'm curious about what your wife/girlfriend/significant other has to say about the pics in the system showcase. All of us testosterone minded individuals will pat each other on the back for hours on end, but our collective betterhalf may think differently.

After following this thread for a couple of days...

http://clubpolk.polkaudio.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14018

I thought I'd start another for a diferent perspective.

So here's the deal, have your wife/girlfriend/significant take a look at your favorites and give her $.02.

Yes I will post my wifes comments.

I must say I feel a little funny about posting pics of my audio setup, cars, house or any other setups or interests on the internet. Maybe just paranoia?? Let me put it this way, people have found me out of the blue (nothing bad obviously) while posting on different sites. Address, phone number, place of employment etc. This may be outside the original question but it does make me wonder if it is smart to go overboard. I'm not like 75% of my friends who are scared to use a credit card on an internet site but where do you draw the line. A few sites I have gone to even have video cams throughout their homes. Nothing sexy or anything. I just feel that with the preditors who are out there that maybe advertising your lifestyle on a public site is not the best idea. Just throwing out some thoughts even though I know that wasn't the jest of the question...

Max - I get what your saying, its certainly a valid statement. Does that mean you have groupies? Damn you ARE a pimp daddy! :D

I have a very special gift for anyone that wants to visit, uninvited when I am home. ;)

Frank - Thats a cool idea. Its very scary for me to ask my wife to speak her mind, but I will anyways.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

    Max,

I certainly wouldn't post pics of things that are valuable and easily removed (like guns, jewelry, coin collections, etc.).

Sure, my audio/video stuff has monetary value, but my equipment is not the sort of merchandise that is easily unloaded on the "hot" market. No one with any sense would buy stolen used audio gear anyway. What recourse would the buyer have if the stuff was "dead on arrival"? People who shop in the "hot" marketplace want brand new, factory sealed, right-off-the-trailer-truck merchandise.

What about the fellow who entertains the thought of doing a "smash and grab" for equipment for their own personal use? At the least, he risks damage to the equipment while "retrieving" it. At the most, he risks serious personal injury, incarceration, and perhaps loss of life. The average larceny-minded individual is not going to go to the trouble of breaking in to steal my refrigerator-sized SRSs. The risk/reward ratio is too low.

And besides, here in the Kingdom, burglary is the least of our concerns: "Shoot the burglar and shoot the carjacker laws".:D

With regard to advertising your lifestyle on the Internet, unless you live a reclusive lifestyle, you advertise your lifestyle anyway by the kind of house/neighborhood you live in and the kind of car you drive. I know that predators abound on the Internet, but I'm much more concerned with local ne're-do-wells who drive around casing neighboorhoods.;)

Well this is an interestimng idea, finding out what your Honey thinks of your sound and video set-up. I will ask my Honey when she gets home from her vacation Monday. I know what she may say, less visible equipment is better - period.

With regard to fear of posting system photos because of theft, well I fear that as Americans we are afraid of most everything. From killer bees to SARS, to second hand smoke, to getting old, to raising the terror level. We listen and react to statements that generate fear every day.

Great post idea. I will post my system soon.
