I have been looking at this receiver because it seems to have the most features in its price range. I was almost ready to purchase when I started reading of the many problems some have had with Denon receivers. Does anyone have any good experiences with this or a similar receiver? Thanks.

I've had the 1802 for almost 2 years now. It is a fine receiver and I've had absolutely no problems whatsoever. It plays as loud as I want for my HT in a very large room and it also does well with music. The Denons seem to work well with the Polk RT(whatever) series of speakers. As I recall the only difference in the two is the 1803 is 6.1 and the 1802 is 5.1. I think the 1803 has pre-outs for all channels and the 1802 only has front 3 pre-outs. Thanks, maybe I was just overlooking the good reviews and only seeing the bad. I really want to purchase a 6.1 rcvr, and it seems the 1803 is a pretty good value.

I'm very happy with my 1803. I bought it in Feb. and haven't had a single problem. It drives my 6700's nicely and sounds great (to my ears ) for both movies and music.
I suppose 1803's can be had for less now that the 1804's are out. I think it's a great value. Still, you should listen and compare. Onkyo and Harmon Kardon, to name just a couple also make nice AVR's in that price range. It's not always just about the most features. One may sound a whole lot better to you than the others even if it has a few less features.
The 1803 does not have an on screen set up feature (the 1804 does). That means all your set up info is only displayed on the Rec. itself. That is a big drawback for some but I never found it that hard to deal with.
Good luck and have fun.Denon AVR-1803

I have two Denon's, an 1801 purchased in 1999 and a 1802 purchased in 2001 and have never had a problem with either one. They are both pushing Polk systems and are a great match up IMHO.

I've had my Denon AVR-1803 for about 2 months so far and I am more than pleased with it. I've had no problems what so ever. The unit is very nice with a smooth sound to it. I really enjoy it and believe it is an outstanding receiver for the money.

Thanks for the responses. I am replacing an old Sony pro logic 1 rcvr, so I'm sure it will be a vast improvement.

I, too, have a Denon 1803 and I love it. Never had a problem with it. It's a great receiver for a basic 5.1 or 6.1 setup. I paid $329 NIB for mine about 6 months ago.
