Those RTi10s you have need a fair amount of power to really make them sing. The AVR you chose is solid but not quite powerful enough to push those speakers.
I would recommend either looking for a used but more powerful amp. Maybe something in the Elite line. If you go this route get something with preouts. This way you can just add a power amp to the AVR when you get more funds and not have to buy a new avr for the preouts plus purchase a power amp. (I learned from my mistakes)
Or get a nice sub (which you need anyway) set the crossover for 80hz. It will allow the avr to use all its power for the mids and the highs, and the subwoofer and its amp will handle the lows.
If you listen to 2channel you can go into mcacc and set the subwoofer to "plus". This will allow the subwoofer to play in 2channel.HT Rig Samsung 64F8500 |Pioneer Elite BDP-52FD|Pioneer Elite VSX-32| Two Carver TFM-15cb Bridged for mains|Polk Audio RTiA5 Cherry|Polk Audio CsiA6 Cherry|Polk Audio T-15 Heights|Polk Audio FXia6 Surround|DIY 8cuft Dayton Ultimax 15" powered with a Crown XLS1000

You will need quite a receiver to power those RTi10's and CSi5. Would suggest you open up your budget a bit more to get more out of them.
The problem with that 1022K is its not got enough power, and it does not have preamp outputs either, so you are kind of at a dead end in terms of extending its life with a separate amp down the road.
Another alternative is to buy an older used receiver which can be had for real cheap, and use an HDMI switch to do your video switching. The HK 247 or 347 series would do great.

do you need hdmi pass through? if not I say check you local kijiji or used(city) adds and do like mentioned above. just buy one that has preouts so you can add an ext amp later on down the line.

I am looking at getting this sub...

I have the other items I listed I am just in the market for a receiver and a sub I know I probably did it backwards but just couldn't find a deal on a receiver worth pulling the trigger on got a decent deal on the speakers.
I am new to the home theater scene and this will be my first setup I am not very familiar with what specs to look at when looking for a receiver to power my system what are some of the essientials when looking for a good receiver to power my front and rear speakers along with my center?Onkyo TX-NR809

You want to look for a receiver with preouts, which that one I don't think has. Why ? Because should you ever decide to move up the speaker chain, you will most likely need to add an amplifier which you cannot do without preouts.HT SYSTEM-

Honestly that 1022 will leave you wanting more. I ran Rti8's (easier to drive), off an 1120 (more powerful) and still ended up adding an amp for more power. I'd either budget for a cheaper avr with pre outs or i'd spend a little more and do it right the first time. You've got a nice setup, you'll be glad you did.

Not any that have preouts for future power upgrades to get the full potential out of your speakers. Take your time, save a bit more money and get a better receiver that has preouts. If you want the best possible sound quality out of your speakers, you need to provide them with the power to do so, and a receiver in your price range will NOT get it done. As B Run said do it once and do it right the first time around.

How much power is recommended to make those rti10s sing?
I noticed the Onkyo TX-NR809 has about 130 w for high mid lows?
Pioneer has these specs:
Power Output per Channel (20Hz-20kHz, 0.08%THD@8ohm): 80W
Power Output per Channel (1kHz@8ohm): 110W
Power Output per Channel (1kHz@6ohm): 140W
For the Pioneer does that mean the highs are at 140W? Mids at 110? amd lows at 80W?Onkyo TX-NR809

No, my good man, thats for the whole freq. response, or the whole speaker depending. Receiver power ratings are somewhat misleading. When you drive more speakers the power each gets goes down. Say 100 watts per channel, 2 channels driven is the spec, but at 5 channels driven it may drop to 80, and at 7 channels, may go as low as 30-40.
350 is a tad on the low side unless you want to buy used.HT SYSTEM-

The Onkyo TX-NR809 will work just fine but will not produce the best possible sound you might hear. What everyone is telling you is to realize the very best from those speakers, you will need a fairly high powered receiver or better yet, an external amplifier.
My advice would be to get the 809 for now and evaluate your need for an amplifier later. You could always add a reasonably priced Adcom, Rotel or Emotiva amp at a later.Fronts:B&W 804 Diamonds, Center: B&W HTM2 Diamond, Surrounds: PolkAudio LSi F/X (4)

Hard to beat at that price. Should serve your needs quite nicely.

anonymouse wrote: »That is a $1,100 MSRP receiver. You would be hard pressed to do better for that receiver new. It will handle your setup initially will great results. Down the road, to get the best from your 10s, you may want to add an external amp, and the 809 has the preamp outs to allow you to do that. I have no idea what the duty on that to Canada would be, but if you are in the US, that receiver is a no brainer if you can spare the coin.
Excellent I was going to get the Pioneer 1022k but as suggested I think I am going to wait on a receiver for now that way I won't rush and hate myself for doing it later.
I am already going over to the states to pickup my csi5 and possibly a sub.

I have ordered from them a few times seem to be fairly decent haven't had any issues with them either.
Were there any other receivers that are recommended in the $480 price range that will pump my RTI10s?
or is that as cheap a price I will find for a receiver of that sort?
Also if I were to go with a cheaper AVR with that has the ability to add an amp later for power overall power how much do the amps go for?
I am just debating whether to bite the bullet now and get a powerful receiver and sit back and relax or wait it out.Onkyo TX-NR809

You might be able to pick up a Pioneer Elite SC-07 in that price range. It puts out its rated power with 5 channels driven and just a tad less with 7 channels driven. I doubt you'll ever feel the need to add an external amp to it.Political Correctness'.........defined
