Right AVR/Power Amplifier for RTi A 9s

Hello folks,
I have purchased a pair of Polk RTi A9s to add to my existing collection of Polk Monitor 70s, R50s & Monitor 20s, CSi A-4 and a pair of PSW 111 subs. They are currently hooked up to a Pioneer VSX-1017K bought in 2008. In addition the AVR is hooked up to a Pioneer BPD-140 (Blue Ray), PS-3 and a 64" Samsung 8000 series Plasma.
I have not hooked up the RTi A9s to this set up as I feel my current AVR does not have enough juice to drive these magnificent speakers.
I'm thinking of getting the Pioneer Elite SC-68 which puts out 140W RMS but even that falls short in my opinion.
At some online forums I have read that hooking up a power amplifier to the AVR set up like Emotiva XPA-2 which puts out 300Wx2 RMS using the pre -outs to drive the front speakers will work well.
I use this set up to watch movies as well as listen to music(in a 2 channel mode)
I look forward to your feedback on a suitable AVR/Amp combination to do justice to the RTi a-9s.
Thanks.

If you are happy with your receiver and since it has preouts, then get an external amp to hook it up to. Emotiva & Outlaw audio are great for brand new at reasonable prices. If you are willing to shop the used market, you can also check out Rotel, Parasound, Adcom, NAD, Sunfire, and B&K. Get at least 200wpc @ 8ohms, this much power will drive just about anything to its full potential now and in the future with any other speaker upgrades you may do.

I just hooked up an Emotiva XPA 5 yesterday to some RTi10's, it sounded like a totally different speaker. This is my 1st power amp. and don't have anything to compare it to, but it works fine for me. If budget wasn't a factor I really liked what I read about the Parasound 5250 V I believe it is. I'm no autoiophile but wanted to upgrade the music side of listening and the XPA 5 has definately changed the sound of the RTi10's. Which were in place for about 4hrs, then some B&W CM9's took their place.Panasonic 50"

You need an amp, no way around it. A9's just need much more juice than the 10 series Pio can produce. A couple hundred bucks should do it.Main Family Room: Sony 46 LCD, Sony Blue Ray, Sony DVD/VCR combo,Onkyo TXNR 708, Parasound 5250,

Thank you very much folk for all your informed advice. I really feel that Polk forum has been very helpful. I will be going for Pioneer Elite SC 68 & an amplifier (one of the brands suggested here). Once again thanks everyone for advice.
