Looking to hear my SDA 1B's sing a little more than the Onkyo TX SR805 allows, so here I go on a hunt. I am posting as someone here may have an answer. Thanks and Pm if you have something.

Tru dat! And a 100 wpc high current amp that is stable to 4 ohms would prob be putting out close to 200 wpc anyhoo. -
By changing the Onkyo to 4ohm setting the speakers are singing like birds right now. Feeling pretty dumb!!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

PM TNHNDYMAN as he may have something you can use. I know he had a couple Adcom's that would serve well for you.
soundfreak1 also had a 2-ch amp for sale I think too. PM him as well.
Hope you find something! -

You would be hard pressed to find a 200wpc that has low current.
Tophat, by changing the setting on the Onkyo from 8 to 4 all you have done is tell the receiver to limit what little bit of power the receiver was sending to the speakers in order not to burn up the receiver. Switch it back but watch the volume until you can get an amp.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2 -
Tophat- I do have an Adcom 5400 for a buck a watt $200 if interested. PM and I'll be happy to discuss and sort out shipping details. Think I saw in another thread where Denron was going to demo a 555 for you. Might be more money, but if he is selling I'd rather have the 555 myself. Nothing wrong with the 5400 just not quite at the 555's level or reputation.2-ch System: Parasound P/LD 2000 pre, Parasound HCA-1000 amp, Parasound T/DQ Tuner, Phase Technology PC-100 Tower speakers, Technics SL-1600 Turntable, Denon 2910 SACD/CD player, Peachtree DAC iT and X1asynchorus USB converter, HSU VTF-3 subwoofer.

Why switch it back when the specs on the SDA 1B's show normal impedance 4ohms???"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

The receiver to limit what little bit of power the receiver was sending to the speakers in order not to burn up the receiver. It's not about what the specs on the SDA's say, they will handle anything you throw at them. It's about what the receiver CANNOT handle without risk of burning itself. up! When you put the switch on 4, it is simply throttling the power back it sends to the SDA's even more.Marantz AV-7705 PrePro, Classé 5 channel 200wpc Amp, Oppo 103 BluRay, Rotel RCD-1072 CDP, Sony XBR-49X800E TV, Polk S60 Main Speakers, Polk ES30 Center Channel, Polk S15 Surround Speakers SVS SB12-NSD x2

High current is what drives Polks, so look for any amp that doubles it's power from 8ohms to 4ohms as a general rule. Will the Onkyo be used as the preamp?
PM sent. -
I ran a 5400 with my SDA 2A's and it did a fine job, had to put a jumper on the black terminals as it wasn't common ground. I didn't notice a earth shattering difference when I bought a 555, just more volume at a lower setting. $200 shipped on that 5400 would have those SDA sounding good.

Good for you Johnny I was on the fence and really was thinking hard and figured that if it was still around after the holidays, it would be a great addition to match up with a pair of 2Bs then add my Adcom to drive a pair of CRS+s you beat me to it and I think you are going to be happy. I should sleep well tonight and keep looking for another Adcom as I really like mine. I bet you are going to enjoy that 1200 congrats.Home Theater

Thank you very much. Talk about the fence.....I was thinking a new (old school) receiver, and then just read all the comments the members were making to me, and read up a little o the Parasound 1200, crossed my fingers that it was still available, and lucky I was. The seller is so cool, and knows his stuff too! I can't wait to hear the difference it makes to my speakers. Again, thanks and hope you get the amp you want too!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!
