H/K receiver?

Hi, i've posted some questions about receiver suggestions in the other wrong areas of this forum. I just recently bought the H/K AVR230 receiver and am planning on getting the RTi8 for fronts, CSi5 for center, FXi3 for surround and maybe the SVS 20-39 PCi for sub. I've gotten some comments that this receiver is not the best for this speaker set. I wanted to hear other's opinions since, i'm such a newbie in this field. Will this speaker/receiver combo do me justice in a 13x10 living room? I've seen the AVR630 receiver at pricegrabber.com for about 300 bucks more than what i paid for the AVR230, and the AVR430 at about 200 bucks more. That sounds like a bargain to me....what do u guys think? Thanks for taking your time to read this...please help me out, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
P.S: since i'm new to this HT thing, i'm sick of using the TV "speakers" as speakers. Any kinda upgrade will make it so much better....but i do want something powerful enough that will keep up with the competition for at least the next couple of years to come.

Sorry I can't answer your question. But I did want to point out that there are only a handful of "authorized" online HK dealers. In order to take advantage of the manufacturer's warranty, you must buy it from one of these authorized dealers. If that means anything to you, I would compare the prices of the authorized dealers only. The list of these dealers can be found at http://www.harmankardon.com/online_retailers.asp

Having said that, I will say that HK are very impressive for their power rating. Their rated power goes a long way compared to many of the other units out there. But if you have that nagging feeling that you could do better, I fear that it might not go away. My only advice is to try out your current setup, if you have the luxury of taking back your HK during that time.

IMO I think the Rti8's might be a little big for the AVR230, wattage wise. You might look at some Polks with less drivers in them, remember your SVS is going to put out all the bass you'll ever need, so you really just need high and mid for your fronts.

I think HK is a nice AVR. My suggestion is buy as much AVR as you are able, better to have too much than not enough. If HK is that tight on warranty claims, then I would agree with EOT, and buy from an authorized retailer.

Buy big on the AVR.....get all your speakers that you want, don't...then go SVS.
CTC BBQ Amplifier, Sonic Frontiers Line3 Pre-Amplifier and Wadia 581 SACD player. Speakers? Always changing but for now, Mission Argonauts I picked up for $50 bucks, mint.

after reading what u guys told me, my decision is leaning more towards the AVR630, which is 75x7. It's pretty much the top of the line model for the current H/K receiver product line, right under the AVR1001 which is at 100x7. But the AVR1001's price tag just is too much for me at the moment. Thanks for the advice guys and i'd be glad to post a picture of my setup, once i get everything.

    you missed the 7200 =) packs 100w x7 115w x2 @ 75amps =)
but in answer to your question I would go to the 630 if you can afford the upgrade now. As many have said it's easier to turn it down a little then to drive it a max all the time.

I used to have a HK AVR-247 powering a pair of RTi8s, FXi3s and CSi5 to deafening levels with no problems and my room is quite big (3000+ cubic feet with two opening that leads to a room twice that size with cathedral ceiling). It's a wonderful synergy. Warm receiver + bright speakers = balanced sound

a room 10x13 is going to rock pretty hard with all that speaker. you may look into something a little smaller to match the amp. I personelly have heard and experienced nothing but horror stories with H/K.
