just looking for some advice on this one:

want to replace Solen caps in x-over on mon 5 with either sonicap or clarity. anyway, both manufac. only make up to a 33uf. the crossover originally has a 34uf for the low pass. should i simply purchase a 33uf and forget about it or combine caps to produce 34uf?

I used the 33uF from Clarity, no issues at all. Use the 33uF and be happy

Why are you replacing the Solen? I am about to recap a Mon 5jr with a Solen so I'd be very interested to hear your opinion.

    Thanks

people say solens don't sound very good esp. for the high pass. i would like to ditch the solen for the HP cct for a clarity or sonicap for sure but was simply making the inquiry about the LP. for the LP cct the solen is probably fine....

Put your money in the Hi-Pass Capacitors. Those caps are in Series with the tweeters. Any decent quality Metalized Polypropylene will do just fine in the 2nd order Bypass. They're in Parallel with the Woofer. You don't hear them. Solen, Dayton, Bennic will all work there just fine.
