I saw one in action during a gathering in 2010. Although I was curious as to the finished (meat) product based on the design, the meat was moist, tender and evenly cooked with good flavor. That's what really matters to me.
However, this smoker requires frequent wood feedings, compared to other types of wood (or charcoal) smokers. I'm not sure about the maintenance for this but you definitely do not want the fan box to stay outside while not in use. -
One thing, it is nice and shiney.
I would probably have to pass of it though. I've had mine for about 12 years now. Have already replaced the shelving in it 3 times. That comes out to about an 8ft x 4ft sheet of expanded metal every decade.
Besides I really don't want to polish a smoker. Just call me lazy. -
believe me if you put out $15,000 for one of those fancy jambo pits competition smokers , you'll keep it polished:razz:

When I bought my "old fashioned" smoker/grill, I paid about $350. The thing weighs a couple hundred pounds, 1/4 inch thick steel. I figure that's about $1.50 per pound. Either that smoker is really heavy, or a little over priced.

At least they are local. Maybe they do demos at the factory. A little steep for something for on the back porch, but if I was doing competitions and it worked well, the size would be pretty attractive.

Electric smoker??????????
I was just able to convince myself to try propane a couple of years ago. To be honost, the only reason I bought that was because we had 100+ degree days for over 90 days back then, and it was way too hot to start the real grill.
I just can't see a big market for an electric grill in Texas. This from a guy who grew up in Pennsylvania.
