Totem Dreamcatchers - opinions needed

Got a set on the Local CL, debating trying to pick them up. I was hoping to get some thoughts on these puppies.

I have read that folks seem to really like the Rainmakers (like the ones just posted FS here, but my budget is NOWHERE near that price range .). He's asking 400 but its CL so who knows what his bottom is on these.

Anyway just looking for some thoughts on the sonic signature compared to what I know best (LSi 15's and Monitor 60's) and what I have heard around (Magnepan MMG, 3.6, 3.6QR, Paradigm Studio, etc).

Assume the gear in the chain has ~60 wpc and can handle 4 ohm loads. Room size would be 10 x 11.

Yeah I saw a couple completed listings for 225 and 325 IIRC so I know he's a bit high. Doubt he's going to come down to where my budget is, but you can always ask.

I just want to make sure I am not setting myself up for a sound I wont like (since I doubt I will be able to test em beforehand).

That and there is a bit of a drive involved but not enough of one to scare me off.

You should PM mantis (Dan) and ask about those. I believe his store sells almost the entire line of Totems or close to it and he's a fan. I haven't heard these. Like you mention above, I've heard the Rainmakers, which I believe are superior to my Lsi-7s "only" in the slightly greater, brighter, detail of their metal domes. At least that's my opinion. I know Dan does NOT share it (Dan believes the Rainmakers blow the Polks away...me, I don't hear that--maybe I'm just going deaf). lol Don't get me wrong, the Rainmakers are a "nice" speaker, but they only weigh about 12 lbs? So there are some "real world" physical limitations that put them a step up from the 7s but not at their MSRP. That's why they're a GREAT buy "used". If you can get a set for 700 or less. Yeah, that's a buy. If you pay full price, sorry. They're good but not that "good"!

I did some research on them today as I drooled over the pair listed in the FM.

Stereophile and Audioreview both have reviews listed online.

They compared with speakers costing more $$, and some of the best in their class from what I read.

If I didn't have NHT M6's, modded Polks, Klipsch, and Infinity Crescendo's sitting around unused, I would prolly be more interested in Totem myself.

I had the Totem Mites years ago, and I can DAMN sure give those the thumbs up.
One of the best small speakers I have ever heard.

The Dreamcatchers are excellent speakers. They are very detailed with a smooth midrange. The only thing they lack compared to the Rainmakers is bottom end, but in a speaker that size I'd use a sub to fill out the bottom end. Good luck on getting those for a good price.

They are amazing. A few years ago at a swap sale , I played a pair just to get some music in the room. People where walking around and I stopped them in their tracks. One guy asked"Ok what speakers are playing?" , I said "these Dreamcasters" , dude said"no way all that sound is coming out of those speakers". He had to put his ear on all the speakers in the room before he believed it was just them. Needless to say he purchased a pair on the spot along with 2 other guys. I sold 3 pairs in 15 seconds.

Totem , the entire line is amazing. They are remarkable in every way. The amount of clarity , bass , mid range detail and top end air is un heard of for the size of these speakers.
