OFFICIAL "INTEREST" THREAD -- Polk Terminal Cup Replacement, Aluminum Round Vintage

A lot of members have asked me about aluminum terminal cups for their vintage Polks.

I do not plan on stocking these and this would be something I would do with 10 pairs sold at a time so we can consider this the "first batch"

This is how it would go -

Phase 1) Have ten confirmed pairs
Phase 2) Ship off a terminal cup to my CNC shop for exact measurements and tooling.
Phase 3) Collect payment for terminal cups
Phase 4) Receive terminal cups, ship to you guys!

Specs of the terminal cups -

4 Binding post connections for bi-wire - for those that do not have BI-Wire SDA, you can install binding post that are not used or put 1/4" plugs in the holes
Neutrik NL2 cut out for the SDA (can be purchased along with the terminal cups)
Brushed aluminum, 1/8" thick
Laser Etched Polk Audio, +/-/SDA

I should be able to do these for $25.00 each + shipping - will fit in a flat rate box so $6.50 Shipping + Paypal fees

If you need NL2 connections, binding post, NL2 connectors for a cable or nice wire for the SDA cable that can all be talked about through email - Vr3Mods@gmail.com

So far I have the following wanting to do this -

1 Pair - Davemuell
2 Pair - Moose68Bash
- Not Tom ::::::: Any system can play Diana Krall. Only the best can play Limp Bizkit.

FYI, anyone using plugs will have to seal those to prevent air leaks.

Can you post a pic or drawing of what the cups would look like? I've seen pics of the binding post plates you do for your Xover work, which I prefer to the size/shape of the stock plastic cups.

    Thanks!

edit: never mind, I just saw the other thread

I am in for a pair for my 1.2TLs. Would it be possible to add two binding posts for the SDA? I use a binding post for my SDA cable.

I would have to order 20 identical plates.

the NL2 connection is superior in every way. It would be fairly easy and inexpensive to change your cable over. I have access to NL2 connections and can include them with the plates for under $20.00

What I meant to say is if you could add one or two Binding Post Holes for the SDA Connection. This is assuming there can be room for an additional two binding posts on VR3s modified Terminal Plate.

I am currently using a binding post for my SDA Connection and my cable connections are all copper connected spades. Nutrik does not use copper in their connectors. They use Nickel. At this time, I do not wish to make changes to my current connections.

    Thanks!

I could always drill holes for you or you could put a plate over the nl2 to mount a binding post

You may want to rethink that.
SpeakON 8-pole (and 4 pole) yields less contact resistance than 5-way binding posts even if those be cold-forged to the non-plated Cardas patented binding posts

I now use Neutrik NLT4FX-BAG connectors for my SDA cable connections and wish I had done so years ago.

I've really been back and forth asking if I really need these... I'll probably regret not picking up a pair down the road.

F it! I'll take a pair. It will make up for the pair of original plates I couldn't use.

    Trey,

Will the hole sizes accomidate Larry binding post cup "rings" and the hex bolts that go in them? That is, what screw hole sizes to attach the binding post plates to them?

Taken from a recent Audioholics reply regarding "Club Polk" and Polk speakers:
"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

I thought such an item didn't exist? Just the custom rings he made for his rectangular plate and DK's.

I guess I should ask, will these be surface or be of a recessed design like the current cups?

These will be an exact drop in replacement of the stock cups. They will be a "Plate" - no rounded edges. Please see my Vr3 plate above for reference! :)

I will have the ball rolling on these, will email the CNC shop right now! :)
