How important is the type/brand of subwoofer cable?

I read a bunch of threads but haven't seen anything that specifically addresses how important the quality of the subwoofer cable is. I am currently using what is probably a lower end Monster cable hooked to my addmittedly lower end HK sub.

Would upgrading the cable make much difference? The sub is about 10 feet or so away from the receiver. I saw an MIT Exp 4 on Ebay for about $50 which I assume would be a big upgrade from a cheap Monster cable.

I know there's many heated debates over wire, but it seems like most people agree on interconnects, and I am not sure what this qualifies as.

Good question to be honest I do not get caught up in putting a lot of money in my HT, just use good quality cables. My 2 channel rig is a different story.

If HT is your main concern then I would focus on using good quality cables.

As far as will you tell a difference between the 2 cables you mention, you will have to try for yourself.

Not sure what a HKsub12 is but if it is a HTiB sub I would not bother.

I bought and use a Mono Price sub cables, the subs pound so I guess they work. I use BJCs for the rest of my system.

Are we talking active powered subs or passive subs?

For passive subs, any heavy gage speaker cable is good.

For active powered subs with unbalanced RCA analog interconnects and especially for longer cable runs, what is most important is low end to end cable shield resistance.
The Blue Jeans Cable LC-1 Analog Audio Cable is a great budget cable.

For active powered subs with balanced XLR analog interconnects, a quality cable from a major manufacture is good (maybe Belden or Canare or Mogami).

Thanks, I guess I will try out one of the suggestions. The Harmon Kardon HKsub12 is a powered sub - 150 watts 12" driver. Not bad and it was about $300 new, I think. Good enough for HT which is what most of my listening downstairs is. But I had never used anything better than low end Monster cable with it before and was curious if better cable would make a difference.

Entry level Monster cables are built well. For the system you own , I don't see any gain in using a better quality sub cable. You already have a good quality cable.

Thanks, Smallies, sounds like a great deal, but I guess I will stick with the Monster and hope to upgrade the sub one day.
