I'll take hiss over a filter any day.
Good music, a good source, and good power can make SDA's sing. Tubes make them dance.

I don't recall hiss on the 20-bit remastered version I have on CD. Jimmy Cobb's ride cymbal has rivets, which make a sizzling sound, sort of a sustain. It could be partly that cymbal that's contributing to what sounds like hiss.

    Just a thought.

no it's definately tape hiss..sda's are all over it, too..maybe the remaster you speak of, is worth a pull

YMMV, but I've found this to be the best Kind of Blue on CD:

    http://www.amazon.com/Kind-Legacy-Edition-Miles-Davis/dp/B001KL3GZO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1355421046&sr=8-2&keywords=kind+of+blue+cd

The Sony Mastersound one is second best, the gold cd. But I like the Legacy version better.

Btw, you'll see some negative reviews of the Legacy version on Amazon, particularly because of the dual-disc format. I believe this was one of the titles that Sony pulled that little root-kit trick several years ago. I believe they pulled those back and they are no longer sold, after Sony took a beating for doing that. For example, there is feedback from 2005 complaining about the driver replacement nonsense that Sony did. But the release date in the link I gave you is from 2009. I beleive the version that is currently being sold is your basic "normal" cd.

MFSL is soon to release a hybrid SACD version. I would expect great things. I just received the SACD of "In A Silent Way" yesterday. I will spin it tonight. I would expect great things from both.

"I'm yet to hear a Polk speaker that merits more than a sentence and 60 seconds discussion." :\
My response is: If you need 60 seconds to respond in one sentence, you probably should't be evaluating Polk speakers.....

Dependent on where you look, a Blu-spec CD and a K2HD CD version are also available.
