Upgraded to rti28/csi30

A question from someone who knows just enough to be dangerous..... I recently upgraded my RM6600 / PSW350 / Yahama 5240 system with the following speakers...... csi30 center, rti28's main, r15 surrounds, psw350 sub. I set up the csi30 as "large", the rti28's as "small", the r15's as "small" and utized a LFE cable instead of "the Polk way", the cross over is set at 100, output set to "both", and I've moved the sub into a corner. The sound is much improved, but I wonder if I've taken the right approach. Which sub connection set up would you recommend? What speaker set up (small/large) will give me the cleanest bass and fullest range. Any other feedback would be appreciated.

I would try switching the CSi30 to small and setting your x-over to 80 hz instead of 100.

Going to say the same set all speakers to small and x-over to 80 and start from there.

Let us know if this set-up sounds better than the RM6600 system (I'm sure it probably does) I have a RM6700/PSW202 set-up and was thinking about making a similar upgrade.

With those speakers, I would almost keep the corssover at 100 with all speakers set to small. You might pick up some directional base from the sub but those smaller speakers would be cleared of their higher power (Lower freq) duties.

Try both crossover settings (Assuming this is on your AVR) If the crossover setting is on the back of your sub, set it as high as possible to keep from doubling the crossover from your AVR.

Thanks for all the advice! I set all speakers to "small". switch the sub out put to sub only, set cross over to 80. It sounded OK. Next I used the AVIA set up disc (got it back from a friend)with a sound level meter. WOW! I never would have believed the results, nor would I have made the adjustments on my own. I moved the cross over to 100, made slight volume adjustments up to center and surrounds. Then (totally unexpected), I ended up turning down the sub volume in the reciever as well as somewhat on the sub. The results were that "everthing" tested out in the 80 85 db level. When I tried it out on selected scenes in"Lord of the Rings" and "Matrix", I heard a much fuller range of sounds and no bass distortion at high volumes. In response to the upgrade question on the RM6700, I would say that the new set up is significantly better (sounds GREAT!). When I used the AVIA disc with my RM 6600 I had a "mid range hole" detected on some of the test. I fully realize that my upgrade pales in comparison to other systems I've read about in this forum, but for the budget I had approved from the commander, and the size of my room, it's a great improvement! Thanks again for all the help!
