parting with an old friend

:sad:well it's time I move on and let my old good friend usher 6381's go. I will likely open a bottle to cheer me up
a little but it will be hard.
Then there's the thought of what I will be replacing them with this Saturday:cheesygrin:
How do you deal with the loss of a friend, well not total loss just moving them into another room

I'm gonna say the Logans or Kefs. BTW- I think it was you who did that review of the GF tube dac 11 for Mojo, enjoyed it. Suckers never come up on the used market.

these are balanced across the spectrum with highly refined highs with absolutely no glare, you just sit a listen endlessly. sound stage starts at the rear of the speakers and the speakers are like phantoms not in the room. midrange is spot on, vocals, timbre, clarity, and speed. there's more than enough bass for my room 12"x15"x8" in a larger room you might need a sub. i could live with these if i hadn't had my eye (bank account) on something else.
picking up three large heavy boxes saturday, not sure if i can hold off opening them up or not

picked the speakers up yesterday. they were supposed to have them boxed but he wanted me to see them first, not a mark on them, i would call that new. although i got 40% off retail i had to dig deep for this amount of money. the pliths weigh as much as some bookshelfs. the baffle is gloss black and the sides and rear is a red resin, will have to get the name of the finish, just think merlin speaker ruby red finish. these are big but not as big as my 6381 and weigh about 90lbs. without the plith each. my 6381's weigh 129lbs. without their bases. they are still in the box as i am thinking of them as a christmas present so that's why i have not named them yet but the last time i heard them playing some bb king, brought tears to my eyes. may end up hooking them up before christmas.:cheesygrin:

well, almost time to open up the new boxes. i listened to my usher 6381's for one last time and they cried to make their case to stay but i can't wait to hook up my new babies. a couple of you already know what the new speakers are and now is the time to name them.............USHER!USHER!USHER! DANCER MINI 2 with Be tweeter after much research i decided to start with the Be tweeter as people i trust said the Be tweeter was best for jazz, blues, and rock. besides if i want to upgrade to the diamond tweeter later i can get it at cost. will let you know how the first listening session goes.:cheesygrin:

well, after my foot got better at new years(gout) i was left with the task of getting the speakers upstairs by myself. i had to flip the boxes end over end to get them up. these are a beast at over 90+ lbs. each let alone the 37 lb. cast iron bases. but finally got them set up in a temporary position while i burn them in and decide where to put the old speakers. the 6381's retailed for $3400 and the dancer mini 2"s go for $5000. the 6381's are a little larger and weigh more and have the compartment to add sand or shot but let me tell you the dm2 is a much better speaker. i have the be tweeter and can get the diamond tweeter later if i desire, that's the big question. the highs are much more detailed but not as forward as the soft dome tweeter of the 6381's. there is much more midrange detail and clarity. bass is tighter and does not overpower my room like the 6381 does sometimes. the ferrari enzo red is to die for. this may be my last speaker unless i win the lotto or someone gives me a pair of a higher up ushers.
