For timbre matching, I'd suggest monitors from the same era. As denrob1 said, monitor 5s, also monitor 4.6s, monitor 7s.
Depending on your screen size, two 4.6s or 5s end to end would give you a nice, wide center. Additional 5s or 7s for the rear.
Match the tweeters with what you have in the SRSs if possible.

Would you go with the new FX/i5 for the surrounds

i have monitor 4.6 series II for center and surrounds. I did upgrade all the tweeters at the same time (RDO-194's) in the SRS and monitor 4.6's. I have been very happy with the timbre-matched sound from the SRS to the other loudspeakers. I know some of the other fellas on here have used the older lsi series center (lsic) and bipole surrounds (lsifx)... they obviously have much newer components. I had FXi5 in my older system, but they are much too bright and lack mid bass IMO. I also upgraded the crossovers int he monitor 4.6's with newer Clarity components... makes an appreciable difference as well. I would agree with he above that the tweeter matching is of paramount importance.

I used monitor 4 before as center but sounded boxy/boomy.
Now I have cs-350 and sounds much better with sda-2b.

    Monitor 4s have a different tweeter than the 4.6, 5 or 7

Yes I beleive the 4.6 had the SL-2500 originally. Like I said when I replaced the tweeters in my SRS I went ahead a changed out the 4.6 HF with RDO-194's as well. very seamless across the fronts.

That's actually not the correct replacement tweeter for the SL2500, the RDO-198 is.

Yes i wanted to match the SRS so I had VR3 suggest a slight mod to the crossover on the 4.6 for me so it would accomodate the RDO-194 instead.

I wonder how one CRS+ for the front and a pair of Monitor 10A's for the back would sound? Been thinking of trying that combination.

I'm using CRS+ and SDA-2B (can switch to one pair or the other) as fronts and Monitor 7's all around for sides and rears along with a CS350 center.
And they sound very very very good.

When looking at which center channel would go best with my Polk SDA SRS speakers, I called Polk audio, and they were able to suggest a center, the CSiA6 that would match very well with the vintage speakers. I bought the CSiA6 and have been very happy with it.

I've tried a couple of center speakers with my 2.3TL's. I've tried a 5jr and a modded LSi9. The dialogue from the LSi9 was very crisp but the center speaker was very noticeable. What I've found most pleasing is no center channel. For my setup, the screen is mounted higher and the location I have for the center speaker is low enough to where it's obvious the vocals are coming from below the screen. The 2.3's do a wonderful job of centering what should be in the center but it blends so much better than having the discrete center channel. This works extremely well for music videos where I want the musicality of the SDA's to shine. At this point, I don't feel the need to have a center channel anymore.

To accomplish this, I ran the MCACC on my Pioneer reciever with a center channel speaker in place and then went into the settings and set center speaker to NONE afterwards.

    Hope that helps.
