One side of subwoofer does not play

I have an RM3000 System; RV2000Satellites and RM1000W Subwoofer, purchased in 1992. It has given me great service all these years! I'm feeding the speaker system from an ONKYO amplifier, which seems to be working fine. The system is hooked up as follows (Option 3 in the guide provided at time of purchase, if that means anything to anybody): Left out of ONKYO connected to Left input to subwoofer, Right output of ONKYO to Right input to subwoofer; Right and Left of satellites connected to Right and Left of subwoofer. This hookup works as expected, except that when ONKYO balance turned to Left, Low frequencies are lost. [To verify that Balance feature of ONKYO is OK, I replaced polk satellites with another set of speakers known to be OK. Again, turning balance to Left lost the lows.]
One check we made (without knowing if it was siginificant) was that there was continuity between to ports for Right on subwoofer but NO continuity between ports for Left.
Does this tell us anything? Can anyone suggest troubleshooting procedure from here on? I have already checked that connections to subwoofer and to ONKYO are not loose and cables are not broken.

Hello polkfan370,
Welcome to Polk's website forum. The RM1000W has two internal 6.5" bass drivers, in all likelihood one of yours needs to be replaced. Once the 10" passive radiator is removed you'll see the two drivers. Give Polk's CS department a call at 1-800-377-7655 or send them an email at: polkcs@polkaudio.com for assistance. Remember to mention that you are Club Polk member if they have the part to order.
Cheers, Ken
