Replace Driver for SDA 2A

All,

I set a friend up with a set of these recently, he loves them. So much so in fact, that he fried one of the 6.5" drivers(he is single and really cranks it up). It's an MW-6501, we are having a hard time finding a replacement. My question is whether there are any other drivers that are compatible. What are the differences other than resistance in the 65XX drivers?

Thanks!

Call Polk Customer Service tomorrow to see if they have that one in stock.

Otherwise the closest would be the MW6510, but it's not that close.

.....and tell your friend to buy a better amp.

    Here's a pair of them PAIR-of-Polk-audio-MW-6501-speaker-driver

I think you can still get new ones from Polk, Here's a link to Current-Production-Drivers-Vintage-Support

Tell your buddy to get a better amp or lay of the eviction control knob.

Thanks guys, I saw the pair and am tempted to get them for him since it's probably just a matter of time....

He is currently running a vintage Pioneer SX-1050. It works great and sounds pretty good, and I'm a little defensive of it since I helped him pick it out. However, back to back postings about a better amp got my attention....

I've gotten back into 2 channel in the past couple years. I've been buying the gear I always wanted as a kid but couldn't afford then. However, I've gotta say I'm about done with the vintage gear I knew about back in the day due to the high rate of problems (Polks aside). I'm noticing a lot of guys running vintage Polks with newer gear, and thinking that is my future path. I was able to find a pair of my grail speakers (1.2tls, had to drive to Boise for them) and am thinking that I need something different/better than my current vintage receivers. So multiple "get a better amp" comments for my buddy running his SDA 2As really struck home when I am running my 1.2tls with his amp's not-that-much bigger brother.

    Thanks again for the feedback.

Receivers just can't deliver the goods like a nice integrated or separates.

That said, it's usually the tweeter(s) that goes before the mid-driver(s), so I'd venture to say that the mid-driver already had an issue. Regardless, better power will help all aspects of the sound reproduction.

I had a Pioneer SX1050 in bought new 1976 it was a monster @ 70lbs. But it started frying my speakers in 1992 and I wasn't playing it that loud about 11 o clk. I finally heard it one day it made a slight buzz and there went the speaker.
