i just bought these speakers last week on a splurge for myself. i got married in October and my wife and I are looking for houses so i figure screw, i have some money I'm going to buy a theater system to build myself. Something Ive always wanted to do and nows the time to do it. for my first system i believe this is pretty frigging good and should last me a very long time. hope the house we pick out has the room it, LOL. anyways. heres my question/s...

being its my first time building one, i do know a bit about car stereos and home audio but would like some better insight from people that obviously has build and put together one otheirer own.
What specs should i look for when in the market for a receiver to get my speakers going? i know it has to be 8 ohms, LFE for the sub would help?? should i do 5.1 or 7.Polkolk audio lady said 7.1 would be nice so i can bi amp the towers for more poweI'm Im rambling I'm im ready to read some insighthanksanx.

    Welcome to Club Polk!

Looks like a nice system above. It would help if we knew what size room that is going into? And also a price range for your receiver needs?

The only shortcoming above might be your center. We usually recommend you go for the "bigger" CS2 center regardless of which towers you run L/R. And also that you get an AVR that has pre-outs. So that usually means an AVR above the $500 dollar price point?

I'd look at some of the Pioneer Elites, and new Yamaha Aventage (Aventage line "only"!), or maybe something by Denon (there you'll have to go up to their 3XXX series to get pre-outs!

As far as LFE settings, start out with the 80 hz setting all the way around and see what that sounds like. It should probably be OK. Then just run whatever AUTO system setup your receiver comes with and take a listen. And, of course, go 7.1 if you have room...throw another set of M-30s back there or perhaps some OWMs (see polk product page).

But most of all, enjoy your new house and HT!

Bi-amping requires separate amps with their own power supply and the use of active crossovers. You cannot actually bi-amp using an AVR.

    Thnks for the Welcome
    AVR = Receiver?
yea im not sure what the room size will be since we have not found a house yet so im getting ideas on what i can save for. as of now i wouldnt get a 7.1 since f1nut said i couldnt do it. (not even worth it, it is?)
i was thinking as close to 300$ as possible. but if not for the speakers i have i guess ill have to wait longer to make sure i get a quality receiver.
    what are preouts?
any links to show me what would be an ideal receiver? at most i guess 400$
and why go with the cs2? i already have the cs1 on its way(eh)

Yes, AVR stands for Audio/Video Receiver.

$300 to $400 isn't going to get you much of an AVR.

You can find really good used stuff on craigslist at this price point. You have to check'em out thoroughly but there is nice deals out there.

That HK 3600 would have most of what you need, decent power and nice sound. Should pair up nicely with your speaker set.

Nice set of speakers. the HD avr will be nice but don't think that its a great deal. This is the most this avr can sell for these days. I think it's a fair deal.

I always suggest accessories4less.com for receivers (no affiliation). I bought a Marantz from them and been using it happily for more than a year now. The old models of Denon can be had for dirt cheap there. worth checking out. If you are like me, the features that lack in the old model you never use anyway. I don't need a frikking radio or ipad connectivity. Preouts and HDMI important though.

I bought my speakers from accessories4less good transaction. I had the monitor 60's and they were good speakers when paired with a good sub, but I always wished I had spent the few extra bucks to get the monitor 70's for a more full range speaker. I would 3rd the bigger center channel cs2 speaker. Center is the most important speaker for HT.

oops. Just read that you already purchased them. Guess my post doesn't help much then
