Getting mills resitors for M5 and M7. How precise?

I've decided to go for it and replace the stock resistors in my Monitor 5 and Monitor 7. The consensus seems to be go with 12w, (not 5w) I'll do that then.

Parts express has close values and I have no idea if this is significant, (as long as they match in both speakers, naturally.) Do I just get an imperceptible tiny bit more high or more low with the lower values? I'm doing a Parts Express order, anyway. Shipping, you know.

So, is it OK to replace:

2.7 with 2.5

6.2 with 6

Sonic Craft has the exact values for a little bit more, and a separate order, of course. Worthwhile?

Thanks,
Steve

In my experience, it makes a difference. Obviously, Polk thought so too.

What do the originals actually measure, when accounting for the resistance of the leads from an ACCURATE ohmmeter?

First guess: The resistors used weren't any tighter tolerance than the capacitors Polk chose.

I understand what you're saying, but still Polk choose 2.7 for a reason, not 2.5 and when doing these upgrades most of us are not going for just good enough, we want accurate values and tight tolerances because it does make a difference.

OK, then. I'm convinced to go with accuracy for a few more bucks. It's more my style, but funds are tight.

It's off topic, but only sort of- I see a lot of guys replace the stock 34uf cap with a 33uf poly. I originally recapped my 7's with 2 17uf electrolyitics and a bypass poly, thinking at least I'd have the correct capacitance. (I was nicely informed that this was doo doo, but didn't take it personally!) Sounds darn good, and is super cheap to do, but I now want to try a poly cap for the bottom. I see no 34uf poly caps available, and don't hear about paralleling smaller values.

Are 33uf the "go to" solution for the Polk upgrade crowd? Thanks, everyone. I bet I could search up that one in a jiffy, if it's common knowledge.

Your fine. The original caps had a variance of 10% - in this case that would be about 31uf to 37uf. Your new caps are likely 5% variance, and could range from 31uf to 35uf (but likely about 1 or 2% variance).

Order the Mills from Sonicraft not Parts Express. They have all the values. http://www.soniccraft.com/mills_resistors.htm
As said, those values were chosen for a reason, so yes it's worth a little extra.
