Hello,

I have a pair of Klipsch bookshelf speakers as my rear speakers, but have been looking at either getting some Polk speakers, but am open to other brands to use as my rear speakers. What do you think are the best rear speakers to be used in my current setup?

    Sorry,

I forgot my setup wasnt listed yet on my profile. So here it is:

    Receiver- Pioneer VSX-821-K
Front speakers- Polk Audio Monitor 70's
    Center Channel- Polk Audio CS2
Rear Speakers- Klipsch Icon 5 1/4" 2 way bookshelf
Subwoofer- Polk Audio DSWPRO 440wi 8"
    PS3
    46" Phillips LCD 1080p

I was thinking about getting some Polk rear speakers to have a set of Polks, but wanted some feedback on what might be the best setup possible with what I currently have. I have been thinking about upgrading my reciever and eventually getting an amp for my front speakers. But that is down the road. What do you suggest?

    Thank You,

Sounds like you're on the right track, i'd get some Monitor 30's or 40's for the rear and have a matching set. I've used the 30's before and they work just fine as surrounds.

Not arguing, just looking for an education. The OP has good rears, what would moving to the Polk's get him? Sound wise everything I can find shows a crap shoot at best and even a slant in the Icon's favor. I understand the need for matched fronts but have never seen the need for the rears to be matched. Do they?

The rears are not as important to be timbre matched as the front 3, however when you have a drastically different type of speaker (horns vs silk dome tweeter) they sound very different. The Icon is a fine speaker on its own, I just prefer a matching system sonically and aesthetically.

how much do u want to spend on rears? I would move the icons on the back, and get bipole surrounds.

I have found that tube based computers provide the best sound quality. ENIAC and MANIAC I offer a smooth, well defined and articulated sound unmatched by the current silicon based CPUs.

Ageed. horns mixed with domes bad idea.Timbre matching aside its way to easy to localize a single set of horn tweeters.
