Mid-level amp recommendation for Polk DX7s and GNX104 sub?

    It does seem like the car manufactuers are just going out of their way to make it as difficult as possible to install an aftermarket stereo system. I guess they jsut cant understand why we wouldnt want a set of low bidder dual cones cranking out a whopping 12x4 max watts! My sister has a Ford Escort and you cant put an aftermarket CD player in there without major fabrication because the radio is in a 1 piece console along with the air conditioning controls. You lose the factory stereo, you lose the a/c controls. thanks Ford! I guess she could always buy a factory piece from the dealer. I mean, why wouldnt she mind paying $850 for a CD player?

    Update on SuperCrew install:

    Got the Hifonics 5-ch amp mounted to the rear panel today. Also ran the power cable & fuse holder from the battery post to the amp via the passenger side cable track and got the ground cable installed. (I know.. slow install but I wanna do it right)

    Tomorrow I plan to run the speaker and remote wires along the driver's side track. I'd love to be able to run the wires directly to the doors (bypassing the factory wire connections). If anyone has done this with a 2001 S'Crew I'd like to know how. I'll check and see what I'm up against first thing in the morning.

    As far as I know, the only way to do it is to break out the ol' Black and Decker. It shouldnt be that big a deal tho. You may have to take the door off to get enough room to drill which would really, REALLY suck. Hopefully not. I havent checked so I dont know. Other than that, just remember to dab some silicon around the hole so rust doesnt develop. Good luck.

    Install Complete.. Tell me if this is ok

    Got the entire system done today... the Hifnics amp sounds really good though I haven't fully tuned it.

    During the install, I took of one of the rear door panels off to run the wire through the black tubing and suddenly remembered that I used Dynamat on all four doors :( Just looking at it made me second guess my first intentions. Instead, I ran all four speaker wires (14-gauge) down the passenger side and connected them at the factory wire connection in the dash (I believe they're 18-gauge).

    So, I didn't do the install exactly as planned but it still sounds good. Is that ok? I'm willing to re-run the wires directly to the speakers if you guys thnk I should. However, it would be a royal pain in the ****!

    I wouldnt sweat it. As long as you dont plan to compete you will be fine and never know the difference.
