I was surffing my local craigslist for a used power amp to power my lsiC center. Found parasound hca 1000 but was told SOLD. Also told he has this Rotel rmb 1095 in mint for $800. Google for similar but can't find any for sale. I have a Adcom 555 for my front already. How's Rotel compare to Adcom? Is $800 a good deal for this beast? How much should I offer?

Thanks in advance!

Joe

If you can get it for $800.00 , jump now , that is a excellent price for that amp. They usually go for 1000-1200 depending on condition. Worth every cent. Amps really don't go bad or get out dated so they usually hold their value very well. I don't think the seller is going to take anything less then $800.00 bucks , I know I wouldn't. I owned one and can tell you first hand it's one of the very best amps in it's price point and better then the Adcom 555.

xftman - I have a rotel 1095 that I purchased locally for $900 about a year ago. It was mint condition with original packaging and supposedly very few hours. I have not had any other amps yet at this point in my trip down the HT rabbit hole, but I like it a lot. Improved the sound above and beyond the SC07, which was pretty good already. The Rti12's definately benefit from separate amplification. $800 is a good price.

    The rest is TBD.

If you can pick up a mint RMB-1095 for $800.00...run don't walk. Don't dick around trying to get a better deal because it'll be gone to someone who knows it's worth while you're playing footsie with the pricing. A word to the wise!

Don't sweat the box since it's a local sale. Just bring something to wrap it up in and make sure to try to test it out before hand.

Ditto! I've read several reviews of upscale 10XX Rotel amps. Writers compared their SQ to Krell, Levinson, and the like. I use a 985 to power my LR tops & CC.

Not sure about this amp specifically, but in my experience Rotel stuff tends to be a bit on the bright side. Still a good price, but you might want to audition it before you decide to ditch the Adcom 555ii.

And which amps are you referring to? I've own the RMB-1050-1070-1080-1090-1075 & 1095 and none of them were bright.

Make sure you bring a back brace. That sucka is heavy.

About the Rotel RMB-1095 being bright...that's not my finding at all. I have no idea how that rumor started. For $800.00 clams grab it & run!!!

The RMB1095 is not a Bright sounding amp. If anything it's warm and very clean. It's punchy and powerful.

If I had to choose, I would take the Rotel hands down, they make outstanding gear and you don't see that kind of price everyday even on a used one. I will always have a Rotel somewhere in my gear.

You have to do what you think is best for you, but I will tell you that this equipment is built to give you YEARS of enjoyment. The Rotel pre and amp & cd player that I had lasted for 18 years.

There wouldn't be such a robust market for used gear it it wasn't built to last. But if having the new gear with the warrenty will give you peace of mind then get the XPA and enjoy.

    Welcome to the club.

If new and cheap with a warranty is your priority, then Emotive is your huckleberry. If sound is more important there are other options on the used market.

Kinda like buying a brand new Kia Rio or a 2 year old Toyota Camry. Some will take that new car with the warranty, others will take the Camry knowing it will outlast the Kia by a longshot. Matter of preference is all.

You're still mulling over a newer 985 w/twice the power per channel and likely mo' better PS circuitry. A side note: all my amplification is circa mid '80s. If all channels work, I wish I had $800 plus ga$ & time to get it for my system. Then eBay or A'gon some of my other pieces.
