Thinking of adding an amp to my setup (SC 27, LSI C, 7's, LCI 60's and PSW 550). Also will be needing a sub at
some point.

Since there's no local hi fi retailers in the area, I called a store across the state line to check on some prices for the RMB 1575. The owner mentioned that he has a used 1075 for $600. Think I could get for a little less. Also looking at Wyred4sound in a 3 channel for the fronts letting the 27 power the surrounds.

1. Would this improve my setup or would the 1575 be a better addition?
2. Is this a reasonable price?
3. If you had $1500 - $2000 to spend on a sub, what would you get?
4. Is it necessary to amp the surrounds?

TIA

The RMB-1075 should be plenty. Anywhere between $500-$600 is a decent price. The SC-27 should be fine for just surrounds, heck it'll run all five channels very well. For a sub I'd definitely go with a ID company like JTR, Seaton, SVS, Epik or HSU.

Thanks, I'm just concerned since the 27 is not 4 ohm rated.

I would go with the 1575 since you have an entire line up of LSIs. This way you have plenty of headroom and all the speakers can operate to their full potential.

The RMB1075 is a nice amp and will sound awesome. The RMB1575 is a newer design in Class D. It also has a lot more power. Whats damn nice about class D amps over Class A-B design amps is they don't waste power. A typical Class A-B design will use about 50% of the power coming in and waste the rest in heat. It's running full throttle all the time just waiting to send the energy out the speaker binding posts. With the B in it , it's supposed to shut partially down and save some power , but it's still highly wasteful. The Class D amps are around 90% or more efficient which is awesome , less heat and better on your electric bill. I've heard a few of Rotel's Class D amps and they do sound great.

I suggest going with the RMB1575.

Mantis, it's been sometime ago but do you rememder selling a LSIC? I was the buyer and acquired the other elements since. It hastaken a long time due to dear wife factors and trying to find the right cabinet. Eventually had to get one built.

Do you have any experience with Wyred4sound amps? And what subs would you recommend in the $1500 - $2000 range? Prefer asub that would leans to the musical side.

Good recommendation would be from HSU or SVS, or the JL Fathom. I know many folks are super happy with either their sealed or ported offering. Not sure what else to recommend as your budget is far outside what I have been researching for myself  (1000 or less budget)

O ok yeah I sold all my Lsi's years and years ago. Cool man. I have no experience with Wyred4sound but they look really interesting.
As far as musical subs , I like Rel and Velodyne. I'd prefer a Velodyne IF the system is going to be use for multipurpose meaning theater and music. The Rel woofers are damn good at music but not as good as a Velodyne in the same price class.
I like the DD series from Velodyne but if money is tight , the SPL line is amazing for the cost. Rel I'm a huge fan of thr Storm III of many years ago. The Q series are pretty nice for the money. The new Britannia series are fantastic and closer to the Velodynes the then Storm series was. But I would still take a DD series Velodyne over just about everything out there.
I have not however played or Installed their new lines.
