Car stereo with tubes?

Anyone ever seen anything like this before? http://uncrate.com/stuff/panasonic-cq-tx5500d-vacuum-tube-car-stereo/
I'd imagine you'd have to have some pretty good speakers and sound deadening material in your ride before you would notice the influence of tubes on your signal, especially while traveling at speed.
That being said, I would rock this thing in a heartbeat if I could afford it. Especially love the analog VU meters. Of course this thing would look much more at home in a high end Benz or Lexus and not my lowly Scion tC.
Thoughts?

This model has been around since at least 2002. If you're considering buying one, you might want to double check what market it was made for. AFAIK these were only made for the Japanese market and therefore are set up for Japanese FM/AM, which is in a different range than US FM/AM. Japan uses 76 to 90 MHz where we use 87.5 to 108 MHz. You'd need a band expander to make it work, and even then it would show the wrong tuning frequency on the display and would not be able to tune to the entire US range.

That is pretty wild. I wonder if they have any issues with all the road vibrations and bumps. That Panasonic screams for a wider opening to plug in an 8-track tape.Stan

Good tip! I'm not seriously considering one, but still nice to know. Fortunately for me I can't stand anything on FM radio! -
Only 4 grand?!? I'm getting two! -
A good friend of mine has this deck in his truck. He loves it and it sounds great. He also has a tube amp feeding the fronts and rears in his setup. The whole setup sounds great. He has had the deck for 4 or 5 years without any issues....
