I know this topic was discussed here several times and I have already read all of them but still confuse and I want a completely "fresh" advice from Polk fans cause I am new here. I got a pair of Polk 10B (with the Silver Coil Dome tweeter) including original stands for $50 and need to upgrade the crossover. My speakers do not have the Peerless tweeter. My questions are :
1.What are the capacitors and resistors values and brand name should I buy?
2.Where should I buy them from?
3.Should I replace the Silver Dome tweeter with the Peerless ones? If so, should I change the crossover set up?
So many things to concern, that's why I need your help.
Thanks a lot.

Many here more knowledgable than me but just want to say you are in for a great experience! I just recapped my Monitor 11's and they sound great! Already had peerless.

I think the new Polk RDO??? tweeters will be the recommendation for your project. Axon caps are on sale at Parts Connection. You can use those for the larger sizes. They carry Clarity caps which would be good for tweeter. Mills 1% resistors also recommended.

    Good luck with your project!

The first thing you'll want to do is figure out your component list. There are four M10 schematics listed here: http://www.polkaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?38755-POLK-AUDIO-Speaker-Wiring-Schematics-amp-More-ALL-MODELS-except-SDA
You said you have the SL2000 Silver Coil Tweeters, so that would narrow it down to: schematic_m10_rev.pdf
Once you download that schematic, you'll need to pull the crossover on one of your 10s, and compare the values that you actually have, with the values shown on the schematic. Polk sometimes used oddball parts, so it's important to nail down exactly what's there.
The Crossover is divided into two parts, Hi-Pass, and Low-Pass. The Hi-Pass components are the most critical, so plan on using the best components that you can afford.
You need to figure out how much your willing to spend overall, including replacement tweeters. The direct replacement for the SL2000 is the RDO-194, which can be ordered from Polk. Be sure to tell them you're a Club Polk member, and you'll get free shipping.
The Peerless Tweeters you mentioned are not compatable with your crossovers, unless someone swapped them out at some point prior to your owning them. That's why it's important to pull one of the crossovers and compare it to the schematics.
There's also a further complication or upgrade depending on how you look at it. Schematic_m10_sl3000mod.pdf shows modifications that would allow you to use the top of the line RDO-198 Tweeter. This is a bit more complex, and inductors would have to be changed in addition to the Capacitors and Resistors.

    WestMassGuy,
Thanks for your guide. I have downloaded the schematic and going to order the RDO-194 tweeter from Polk. I pulled out the crossovers and they are identical matched with the schematic. I am on right track now with your help. WIll post result later. Thanks a lot.

You're welcome. If you need advice on which capacitors and resistors to use, I and many others can give recommendations.
