I have always read about George Lucas being a bit of a control freak. I guess for 2 billion in up front cash he can probably see his way clear of the day to day grind.

Lucas already tained the series with the three he released recently, and its only gotten worse with Star Wars cartoons, Disney cant do much more to mess it up IMHO.

Star Wars will always be the original 3, watched from the Collectors edition on Laserdisc with horizontal bars. Thats the standard IMHO .

Can't be any worse than Jar Jar Binks!

I'm glad to see this happen. This gets Lucas and his tight grip off the franchise, except for his creative consultant ideas which I'm sure they can say..."Sorry, thats stupid! No way Georgie!"

Personally, I'd love to see someone like Joss Whedon pulled in on a future movie(s) to pen or co-pen the script and direct.
    No excuses!

Disney has handled Marvel well so far... and this puts George on as "creative consultant" instead of director... so maybe this will all work out for the best. Or maybe instead of Jar Jar, we'll get Goofy instead and it will all go to hell in a handbasket.

I think you can look at a re-do of all the films with the current flock of hottie actors to take place. When you run out of idea's, you just re-do the originals.

I think this is a great thing. Maybe some very good movies will come out of this. Take a look at the Old Republic online game for PC , it's fantastically written and I would love a movie of that time period. I would like a after ep6 movie series as well.

I'm for anything Star Wars , Long live " In A Galaxy Far Far Away!!!

Was reading a story today about Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher meeting with Lucas back in the summer, where he sprung his intentions of creating Eps 7-9. Since Disney has stated they intend to release Ep 7 in 2015, pre-production is not doubt underway already.

From my standpoint, if they want to do this right, bring back those two along with Harrison Ford, then pass the torch to a new generation. 31 years after the events of RotJ...Luke has built a new Jedi Order...peace and harmony...with new Sith brewing.
    No excuses!

I don't see this as a bad thing. George is "obviously" burned out on Star Wars as is evidenced by how much he's been smelling up the screen with the last three episodes. Stinkers for the most part (OK, the first one was the worst). The problem is that the series "really" does need a REBOOT. You can't pick up something you did in the early '70s-'80s and pretend NO time has passed when you do the prequels! Also, Disney has done some credible work in the Sci-fi realm. And look at the "risk" they took and bought it with "John Carter" (which, really wasn't bad at all, they just f-ed up the marketing somehow by trying to be too mysterious--they dropped a load on effects there!).

I think the jury is out on this one!
