Denon AVR 1913 Audyssey

I ran the setup and it set my speakers to large. Is that right? I do have a subwoofer. It's a 5.1 channel btw.

Should be set on small, unless the speakers feature a bass driver like a 10" or 12" woofer in them.

My denon set my Csi5 as Large as well, but before I run audyssey. I manually set it to small and cross at 80hz. Your TSI400 is small too. I set my Rti12 to Large, however.

You can always cross those over higher as mentioned above. I have my M-70s (similar to TSI-500s)/CS2 set at 60hz and that works in my room. You should experiment in the 60-80hz range and see what sounds BEST to you! The surrounds should be set to 80hz (they're small).

Should sound pretty good with that Denon AVR!

Ok so I should set all my speakers to small and frequency @80hz and then run the Audyssey? Yea my TSI400s don't have any of those big size woofers built in lol. Tempted to buy rti12 though. Once all that is setup I guess ill switch from 80 to 60hz and see what sounds better.

Audyssey is NOT a "perfect" system. So you have to trust your ears. Also, the lower you set your crossover on the L/C/R channels, the more you will push your AVR (it does have limited power reserves, better to let the sub handle the very lowest frequencies to take some stress off it).

I say listen to it at 40hz and also at 60hz. What do your ears tell you, then go with that. I suspect you'll find 60 hz to be a little better?

Don't let the "automation" get to you. Some of us bypass it entirely and use SPL meters to balance our setup (no need for you to go there at this point).

Your receiver is new enough to be able to decode new HD audio formats via HDMI out/ins so I'd probably go with pure bitstream and let the AVR process this.

Linear PCM is usually used when you don't have HD Dolby and DTS decoding in your AVR so that you can still pass a 7.1 HD soundtrack and have the AVR play it.

Just to make sure. Load a Blu-ray with a Dolby HD soundtrack on it and see if the appropriate indicator light lights up on the Denon for Dolby Tru HD when the PS3 is set to bitstream.

So I set the speakers to 60hz and I like it so far, should I run Audyssey again or leave as is with the manual changes?I also Set the ps3 to bitstream and I see Dolby HD. Everything sounds great!

No, don't run the calibration again. Thats the whole purpose of doing a manual adjustment, to suit your ears. As long as your happy, we're happy, rock on.

If the sub was set up properly from the onset, then the settings on the sub should be permanent. If you want louder bass from the sub, then the sub's output level in the receiver's "channel level" settings would be the option to explore.

In the end this how my setup ended up. Fronts and center were manually set to 60hz while surround and surround back were set @80hz. Subwoofer was placed where i felt got the deepest bass. Turned the knob in the back down and ran audyssey until it was a +_0 on the subwoofer setting. This gave me really good results. Really enjoying the setup.

There are a couple of other things I still need to do. Like matching cable lengths of the front three and using a a better gauge wire(14 instead of 16). Any other suggestions are welcomed!

I might have to mess with mine. I was told to set pcm because it was better to have the player decode. That way the AVR recieves the 5,7,9 channel audio from the player vs having to decode it.

I can't say for sure, but I would think that the glass table top has some kind of an impact on the sound from the center channel. Maybe put a section of cloth there or something? I dunno.

Good find. So I guess since it doesn't really matter then I might as well try bitstream and see how my onkyo does at decoding.
