I finally got the new pair for my SRS's! Thanks much to Helen and all at Polk CS!

Since I still have one SL2000 in each, I am inclined to think I should leave it right on the top, that's assuming that the FR basically goes 3,4,1,2

Units taken out both work fine... SL2000 HIGH FREQUENCY RADIATOR, one is stamped DATE: 1/3/86 TESTED BY JAS, the other is stamped DATE 1/6/86 TESTED BY SLA

Man, the good ole days when I was all set to get rich and handsome.
Never did, but STILL GOT MY SDA-SRS's!!!

My initial listening test is that the sound is significantly better, sounds more even and fuller, like the pieces of the puzzle fit. Using U2's WAR cd.

I will probably give it a louder test using Oldfields Tubular Bells.

The trouble with that cd is seems to me to be oversaturated, recoded at too high a level

I have the Digital Domain demo disk that has all kinds of test tones on it, I could try that!

Listening to Little Red Corvette and it sounds like Prince and his guitar are sitting next to me on the couch!

Guess I will have to soon bite the bullet and replace the last 2 SL2000's...

That would be the thing to do. Get rid of all SL2000's if you are going to go with the new RD0 replacement.

I did two on each unit about 5 yrs ago, then just got caught up with other stuff...
Recently, something happened that blew on of the SL2000's, so I replaced it with one from back when.

I checked it with a meter and could find no obvious break/burnout, musta been right in the coil itself.

The next thing I really need to do/get done is rebuild the xovers. I'm sure the 20+ year old caps are gettin a bit tired.

I'm kinda torn because I COULD do it myself, but might be better off having someone here from the forum do it.

    check out gimpod.com
Those new boards make it easy to do the way they are laid out and the instructions that he provides.
I am doing my 2.3tls with his boards.

Special thanks to everyone for their hints and tips for xover upgrade. One more question: which of the forum Polksters do upgrades?

LOTS of good word on the forum about crossover upgrade work done by VR3 and geoff727.

I'm sure there are others around here too.

Either one of these two members will due a fantastic job. I recently had VR3 (Trey) build a set of x-overs for my 3.1TL's using Gimpods boards and Carity Caps and I could not be happier. Hyper quick turn around and premium quality work. And the best thing is, they sound great

I'm starting to agree, it may be time to reevaluate my SL2000"s for the RDO upgrades. Do you have to change crossovers as well as the tweeters?

Should just drop right in. AFAIK, no xover changes are needed, I didn't have to do anything to mine.

It depends on which model you have. The direct, drop in replacement for the SL2000 is the RDO-194, so no changes to the crossover would be required, other than upgrading the the caps and resistors if you're so inclined. Again, depending on which model you have, the "TL" modification may be applicable as well. In that case, the replacement tweeter would be the RDO-198, and some modifications to the crossover would be required.

Of course. The RDO-194s are so much better than the SL2000s. Immediate improvement in the sound. You can always do the crossovers at a later date.

djf, how about an update on your new speakers, have all been upgraded to the RDO 194's and have you changed the crossovers?

To add to the recommendations above: Trey at VR3 Mods recently completed modifications of my SDA SRS1.2 crossovers, binding post cups, and DreadKnought cables. Trey gave me good advice, did great work at a reasonable price, communicates often and effectively, and delivered quickly. To top it all, those SRS1.2s just get better and better as they "burn in."

I also upgraded to RD0194 tweeters, applied Dynamat Xtreme to the MWs and PRs, Applied Black Hole 5 to the cabinets' sides and backs behind and beside the tweeters and MWs, replaced the stock (plus some extra that somebody added) polyfill with AcoustaStuf, removed egg-crate foam from the PR "cavities," and installed Larry's rings and brackets.

Trey is now finishing up the same work for my SDS 1Cs, and I can't wait to hear them. I recommend VR3 Mods without reservation!
