I have not yet decided to buy them, (the speakers) but I do know that I would want them on stands. Is there anyone that knows where to get a set of stands, or stands that look close to the original ones?? That original stand may have been flimsy, but I think it looks cool?? Anyone??

I was in the same boat and decided to look on craigslist. I found a pair of 10s with stands and one bad tweeter. Picked the stands and 10s up for $60. New tweeter on ebay for $40. Now have four matched 10s.

Here are photos of what I made. They can be made cheaply from shelving material (particle board covered with vinyl) from Lowes with a minimum of tools. The design has been copied by a few others here.

Great work there. Will need to access that for when I get my 10As up permanently. As of now they are not in rotation.

Thanks for the compliments. As you can see in the photo below, I choose that finish because it was the best match for the wood trim in my room. There are other finishes available for the shelving boards that I used. At least there were the last time I looked a Lowes... a few months ago.

Thanks! I always wonder how good the room is for SDA sound. There is a large foyer behind the wall where the speakers are located. The speakers are about 5 feet from the side walls.
That is a great looking home/set-up. I had a set of SDA-1Cs setup in a similiar situation to yours when I lived on St. Simons Island GA. The downstairs of the home was very open with the living room/kitchen/and dining room almost being one big open area. I say almost because there was a partition that seperated the kitchen from the living room that was similiar to what you have with your wall with the fireplace there. It was open on both sides. The SDA-1Cs sounded great in this set-up. I say give it a try and satisfy your curiosity! -
Dawgfish, It sounds like the room you described is a lot like mine. If you take a look at my signature line you will see that my monitor 10Bs in the photo are SDAs. I've been listening to this setup for about a year now and I really like the way they sound. I was just wondering if the layout of the room was helping them sound better or hurting. I don't have any other rooms that are susceptible for SDAs so I don't know.
Thanks for your comments. I appreciate it.- SDA 2BTL · Sonicaps · Mills resistors · RDO-198s · New gaskets · H-nuts · Erse inductors · BH5 · Dynamat

Ok gotcha. I now remember reading before that you made some Monitor 10/SDA hybrids and that you really enjoyed the sound of them. That's a really good looking pair btw. That's really cool, I own a set of original Monitor 10s that sound great and I also own a set of CRSs (and a set of SRS 2s). I would love to experiment with something like that. The Monitor 10s have a few dings and blemishes on them but they sound great. The CRSs on the other hand are absolute mint, so I'm not going to mod them or touch them at all. Everything on them is in absolutely perfect condition.
Anyways I got off track there. I had the SDA-1Cs setup before in a condo I was living in before I moved to the house I described in the thread above. I had them set up in the living room and it had perfect dimensions for the SDAs, with them being set in the middle of a long wall that was 20', with 8' between the SDAs. It sounded good, but I did not have as good of quality pre, amp, and cables at the time. The house I lived in was very similiar to your home it looks like, complete with central partition, hardwood floors, and high vaulted ceilings. I did not have a complete wall just like your set-up behind the SDA-1Cs, but they sounded absolutely fantastic, much better than they sounded at the condo. It must be said though that the house setup had much better components and cables, I believe this was the main attribute to it sounding so much better. I would have loved to have heard that same setup in the condo.
Currently I have my SRS 2s setup in the spare bedroom of my work apartment. In all honesty, the room is not quite big enough for them. I have the speakers setup with 6' between them and they are both exactly 30" from the sidewalls. Not quite the 3' minimum the specs call for. They sound absolutely outstanding though. Many SDA effects come from behind me. No kidding. The setup I have now is several rungs up the later from the setup I had with my SDA-1Cs. I can't wait to hear these in a room with the proper size for them because they are stunning now. -
I understand what you mean. My CRS+ are really nice as well. I would not have done the 10B-CRS+ hybrids if anything had to be done that couldn't be 100% reversed both electronically and cosmetically. I like the CRS+. They are great speakers for their size but there is something about the bottom end on the 10s that I like better. To me the 10B-CRS+ hybrid is the best of both speakers. You should give it a try. You can't hurt anything if you don't slip with a screwdriver and scratch something. Since you've been listening to SRS speakers you might possibly be disappointed but who knows? You might like the hybrids.
A pair of 2Bs are what I want but I've not been able to locate a nice pair near me. I can't use speakers larger than the 2Bs because of the height of the doors on the cabinets that you see in the photo. When I find a nice pair of 2Bs I will probably sell my 10B and CRS+ speakers. Until I find the 2Bs I'm very happy with the SDA 10Bs that I have. I was told by another member here who did the hybrid swap that they sounded nearly identical to the 2Bs that he owns. I tried to get him to post his results here but he didn't want to take the criticism from the purist here on the forum.
I think the setup you have is a lot better than mine. I about 7 feet between the speaker cabinets and about 5-1/2 feet from the cabinets to the walls. The problem I have is I'm sitting about 11-1/2 feet from the front edge of the speakers. I get a wide SDA sound but not anything like what you describe coming from 90 degrees or the back. There isn't much I can do about that. We use this room for our living room and sitting closer isn't practical. At least that is what the warden tells me...- SDA 2BTL · Sonicaps · Mills resistors · RDO-198s · New gaskets · H-nuts · Erse inductors · BH5 · Dynamat

I have just the CRS+'s running right now, and maybe because they do the mods done and the 2B's do not, I'm saying the CRS+'s are our performing the 2B's and they seem to handle more volume. They haven't shut down the Onk 805 once! I had them running all together and was digging that, but now I am taking advice from the pros and digging it more!!"if it's not fun, it's not worth it & remember folks, "It's All About The Music"!!

Gotcha TennMan, you definitely have to keep the warden happy ;-) You did some really nice work on those hybrids and the stands! I would love to hear those sometime. I might consider doing the hybrid sometime if I could find another set of SDA 2s or CRSs that are in good playing shape, but are a little dinged up. I have been modding my SRS 2s and they sound great, but I have slipped here and there with a screwdriver or other tools and have put some scratches on them. No big deal, because they sound so awesome and are in really good shape overall. I would hate to do this to the CRSs because they really do look like they just came off the production line. I have never owned a used speaker that were in as good shape as these and I've owned a lot of them over the years.
I also like the the Monitor 10 bass over the CRSs (not that they are lacking in the bass department in the least bit), it's just lower and has more impact overall. The SRS 2s on the other hand, well these things have serious bass, easily outclassing the 1Cs I had in this department. I'm running a 40 wpc tube amp on them now and they rock. I have two tube/solid state hybrid amps that put out 350 wpc each that I am eventually going to biamp the SRS 2s with when I get them back home to GA. I can't wait to hear that.
TennMan, glad your enjoying both sets of SDAs. The 805 has some serious muscle as reciever, but wait till you add a high powered seperate amp on them. You'll be shocked at the difference. -

Thanks! The only edges that are unfinished is the rear of the base plate that faces the wall and the bottom edger of the stop screwed to the back. The second photo below shows how the parts are assembled. I used glue between the parts and countersunk the screws below the surface to prevent scratching the speakers.
