Anyone with experience with the Sony TA-N80ES?

Looking for some input on this amp. For some reason this is in my lust list right now. I really like the output specs and I like having a speaker A/B switch on the amp. I am thinking about one of these for my office where I run two different sets of speakers. Anyone with experience with this amp?

Pretty sterile sounding, typical Sony house sound.Political Correctness'.........defined

Sterile as in neutral? Can't tell if this is a compliment or not. I'm thinking not. -
Sterile as in too clean, no soul. Definitely not a compliment.Political Correctness'.........defined

I own a TA-N80ES for many years. Recently connected it to a new pair of Lsi25. However, I can't provide much input as I don't have comparisons but to say that I like it a lot.

I found a Yamaha MX-1000 for sale locally and I contacted the seller. He immediately raised the price $250 WTH??? I guess that one is out for now.
Surprised no other responses on the TA-N80ES. I thought it was a widely produced/owned unit. -
I think you will find a general bias against Sony here in this forum, but if you like the sound, don't let someone else tell you it doesn't sound good.

I've enjoyed the older ES gear, but everything from about the last 10 years is junk. -
That's a reasonable call, above. Is there bias against Sony on this site? Who knows. I do know that a number of members have decent praise for some of the higher end Sony ES CDP/SACD players, some Sony Blu-rays, and then there is the PS3 for gaming?
In the vintage community there is some respect for late 60s, early 70s Sony receiver/integrateds? The Sony mentioned in this post doesn't fall into that period. I'm also surprised to hear that you believe there were "a lot" of these units sold?

I thought I had read that on thevintageknob.org. Also, it seems like I used to see these pop up on the used market frequently. Perhaps selective memory since I've always been kind of interested in this amp. -
It's a very good quality and sounding amp. I have Installed many of them with many different kinds of speakers and really enjoyed the audio quality that came from it. It's powerful and clean. I think it's a great choice for many rooms and setups.
Where did you find one? On Audiogon?Dan
My personal quest is to save to world of bad audio, one thread at a time. -

Haven't found one yet in my price range. There is one way overpriced one on eBay now. I'm in no hurry, one will turn up before long. And honestly, I enjoy the hunt. -

The man asked for opinions, I gave mine from personal experience with a number of Sony ES products over the years, so stuff your unwarranted comment where the sun doesn't shine.Political Correctness'.........defined

The problem with Sony is that the MBAs are now running the show, so technical and sonic excellence are not a concern. That said, the XA5400ES SACD player released about 4 years ago is superb. However, the MBAs discontinued it. I don't think Sony now sells a dedicated SACD player.
After all, to an MBA, a Bluray player that also plays SACDs is the same thing. :rolleyes:Lumin X1 file player, Westminster Labs interconnect cable

Funny how you were the one to respond when I mentioned the bias. Almost as if it was directed at you. Must have touched a nerve.
