New receiver for SDA-SRS

I'm looking for a new receiver for my SDA-SRS system. I currently have a Mirantz SR9300 which I love but was built before the days of HDMI. Need some suggestions and would like to keep it under a grand. Looking on eBay but a little overwhelmed by the inventory. I do want something that is THX Ultra certified.
Suggestions??

What amp are you using?

I'm not using any external amplifier. The Mirantz is rated at 160 WPC at 6ohms and not sure about 4 ohms. It is THX Ultra certified and has been sufficient (for now) in power.

Whichever receiver you buy make sure it has pre outs so you can connect an external power amp. No way can a AVR, especially one under a grand, deliver the juice to make those SRS's sing like they're capable. In an AVR there's not enough room for a beefy power supply.
You won't belive how much better they sound with, as Tim "the Tool Man" Taylor used to say, MORE POWER!"Science is suppose to explain observations not dismiss them as impossible" - Norm on AA; 2.3TL's w/sonicaps/mills/jantzen inductors, Gimpod's boards, Lg Solen SDA inductors, RD-0198's, MW's dynamatted, Armaflex speaker gaskets, H-nuts, brass spikes, Cardas CCGR BP's, upgraded IC Cable, Black Hole Damping Sheet strips, interior of cabinets sealed with Loctite Power Grab, AI-1 interface with 1000VA A-L transformer -
What about an external amp?

He's using a Mirantz......yeah, I never heard of it either.Political Correctness'.........defined

That's a new brand I think.

What model SDA-SRS do you have, and how loud do you like to play them? I agree 100% with the rest of the guys that SDAs need a lot of power to shine.
When I first got into the "SDA obsession", I ran my first set of 2.3's off of a Pioneer Elite SC-27 (140 watts/channel). It worked fine until I hit the depth charge scene in "U-571". That amp is definitely no slouch, but it shutdown when the depth charges were going off at reference volumes. I said, that's not happening again, and started researching separates...
Adding an Adcom 555 II solved the problem... and that is an entry level amp by some standards around here. -

I have the originals SRS. Not the 1.2's, ect. I've been watching for the 555 II. Looks like a pretty good amp. I drive them to pretty high levels but not to the point of any audible distortion. Just watched The Avengers which sounded amazing but I had the receiver at its limits for the volume I like.

Some commercial amps do a great job without the Cost

I thought commercial amps are more for vol, not SQ? -
Check out some of the early 80's Yamaha commercial amps I power my sda srs 2 with a Yamaha pc2602 with great results.

My SDA 2As love my Carver PM 600. It doesn't break a sweat whether in two channel, or HT useHome Theater/2 Channel:

I finally settled on a Carver TFM-42. I'm going to send it off for a refresh before I hook it up. Looking forward to hearing what the combo can do.
