Speaker Dampening RTIA's

I am going to rebuild the Crossovers in my RTI A6 & A7's using the Fortress kit from Trey. While I have everything opened up would it be worth using some type of dampening material inside the RTI cabs? If so what would be a good choice and what kind of performance can I expect?

Thanks

Many have tried cabinet dampening including myself, and results are mixed. Done wrong it will decrease your sound quality, done well it will give a small improvement to those speakers. If you do it, do it for a fun project and to possibly increase sound quality; don't do it to bring big sound quality changes or add value.

I dynomated my drivers in my CSI and RTi's while I was waiting on trey's mods.

For the dynomat specificaly I cant say that I do. I just noticed when you knocked on the magnet shields with your knuckes they rang. So I though it wouldnt hurt. I was bored while waiting for my XO's to get back from trey so I though what the heck, it only cost 20 bucks for the dynomat.

There's a better way to stop that...don't knock on your mangnet shields with your knuckes! Sorry, couldn't help myself. LOL

I saw your mod when I was having mine done but decided not to do it. Thanks for noting you didn't notice a difference, puts my mind at ease.

Well it is kind of one of those deals where the only time they might ring is when the drivers are pounding prett hard. So now are you going to be able to hear the ringing over a pair of RTi's that are screaming loud?

You're right, it doesn't hurt. Any stamped steel basket will ring, so applying Dynamat Extreme is always an excellent idea. IIRC, I started that tweak a long time ago on my SDA's. I definitely noticed an increase in mid-range clarity.

It looks like I may skip doing it. I'll have enough to do this week when the DIY kit comes in from Trey. Its the Fortress "+" Edition. HeHeHe... More on that later this week.

Might as well do it while they are open.

I had the xo's modded at the same time so I really cant say how much each modd helped. I just figured that the xo's was the bigest part of it.

The other thing I can see with dynomating the drives is that it adds mass. There for when the driver cones are slamming back and fourth the extra weight on the basket and magnet shields acts as ballst to help minimize vibrations wich would cut out unwanted sounds, or improve clarity.

No doubt, the crossover upgrade is going to net greater results.

You're spot on about what adding Dynamat Extreme does.
