hanging rt55i on wall

Hi everyone, i have two sets of rt55i that i would like to hang on the wall as main and presence speakers. I've looked at some mounting hardware options; but while they do work well, they are not very attractive. So what i am thinking of doing is making a box out of plywood big enough to slip these rt55i's into and then secure these boxes onto the wall with lag screws. This way, i can paint the boxes or stain if i wish .

My question is, will putting the rt55's into another box degrade the sound quality? these are ported speakers so that is the reason for my concern. Please advise.

Hank.

Short answer is yes. Build a shelf, but not a box. Pretty big speakers to put on a wall, no ?

Yep I agree with Tony except I raise you one! Put those mains on stands unless it is really not an option. get some good steel stands, fill em with sand and shot, and you will hear those babies in all their glory. if you build a shelf, even a well built one, those speakers will be vibrating a lot which lets out a lot of air and noise that's supposed to be coming out of the speaker and port only. Solid stands make this happen the way it should. The first time I put some bookies on good stands I was blown away by the difference, for me the tighter bass was the most obvious.

Presence speakers are probably fine even in a box as not much bass or sound that's a focal point will come out of them, but the mains need to be on a good, solid foundation.

    good Luck!

Don't hang them on the wall , they are not designed for wall mounting. They are to big anyway. I suggest getting a pair of in wall speakers for Presence duty and use the other pair on stands as mains.

If you can find a pair of RT35's or Rt25's , they are wall mountable VIA key hole slot on the power port.

The rc55 is an in wall product.

The metal grill pushes into the baffle around the perimeter
